Low of 11C and high of 14C in Riga on Friday, 2 mm of rain. Golden autumn in Sigulda, a town 50 km(32 miles) to North-East from Riga.
Seems you're maybe 5-7 days behind us in terms of foliage? We're past peak golden.

Babu is it possible for winter to begin before summer ends, using the Swedish definition? For example, October 12 has a mean of -2'C and October 24 has a mean of +15'C? Two seasons cannot occur at the same time. Spring can transition straight to fall though, and fall can transition straight to spring, if there's no meteorological summer or winter.

NWS is now saying 6-12” of snow by Monday!
The current forecast is for 19/5 on Sunday and 21/5 on Monday. For comparison, the coldest October high on record is 21 f (-6 c).
The October record low is -8 (-22 c) in 1905 so that isn’t in danger.
Meanwhile on the other side of the country, Shitchester hit 80 (27 c) yesterday which is a daily record and the 9th latest 80 f ever.

Plunged to 2.7° C this morning—the coldest it's been all October. Now 3.9° C with heavy cloud (96% RH).

Today was overcast all day which kept the temps down, only got to 45 (7 c) vs. a forecast in the mid 50s.
Both Sunday and Monday have forecast highs in the teens f so we should almost certainly record the coldest October max ever.

very cold/ low pressure airmass coming to the interior west will create cold, dry wind from the east on the west coast; katabatic winds? cold anomalies perfect fire conditions; at least not very hot weatherwest.com/archives/7691

25.6C/78F high... That's chilly for the climate! 25C is like Bandung (6.9S/750-800m) on a rainy/cloudy day at 1-2pm (29C in Jakarta) Yes, it's almost the coolest I've seen in three years of living here.

Daytime temps are 25c below normal in parts of the Intermountain West today. Parts of Montana are failing to go above -15c this afternoon. Pretty nice for October. Here's a 24h loop from 2pm yesterday to 2pm today Mountain Time: images.meteociel.fr/im/2141/anim_rjp5.gifEdit: Apparently someplace in the NWS Missoula region reached -34c this morning, breaking an early-season record:

...and just like that, our cold snap is over as quickly as it began! High of -1C tomorrow and then highs above freezing after that, reaching up to 10C on a couple of days, and lows just below freezing. After 10 days of November weather we're heading back into October

I saw Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyoming were just above freezing 0F/-18C this afternoon, but didn't think to look further north.

Today record an epic 13.2” (34 cm) of snow! That’s the 2nd snowiest October day ever and just today makes this the 4th snowiest October.
The high was 20 (-7 c) at midnight which is the coldest October max ever. Nowdata uses 7PM-7PM though so the high was recorded as 39 (4 c) so we’ll have to wait til tomorrow to officially set the record.
NWS has an additional 2-5” falling overnight and a forecast of 14/0 tomorrow!

The Canadian model is giving us over 2" of freezing rain in the next 48 hours. That's not gonna happen, especially since temps around freezing limit freezing rain accumulation rates.

Fucking hell Amarillo averages 22.2/7.1 (72/45) in October, and 15.6/0.3 (60/33) in November. Alpine, TX averages 25.4/9.7 (79/50) in October and 19.9/4.1 (68/39) in November. Definitely a less extended period of cold because it's much further south but still very impressive. Chance of an ice day!
