It was pouring buckets this afternoon/evening, very unusual to have this sort of heavy rain this late in the season. It also got up to 5C, so this felt like a typical mid-winter day in Vancouver.
Not a fan of cold rain, but this was a nice change from the frigid temperatures. Also a significant improvement over yesterday's freezing drizzle or whatever that wet icy crap we had was - precipitation right around the freezing mark is so obnoxious.

Parkes in Central West NSW got lashed by this afternoon's storm (14° C down from 22° C, and 17 mm in a half-hour). Meanwhilst, I received a 57 mm/hr precip rate 3 hrs ago here, with the total at 41.1 mm; managed temps as low as 11.0° C and a max RH of 95%.

Ogimet's data is gathered from what national weather weather services report to the WMO. For most of Europe they are mostly spot on accurate, except for some glitches.
My point was that why does Babu choose places like Utklippan to present, when it's literally an automatic lighthouse on a very small uninhabited island in the middle of the sea: goo.gl/maps/RdKDZjVTRySdJpGp6That's like using Bishop Rock to represent the UK. Bishop Rock has a record low of 1c. I wasn't trying to "represent Sweden". I think it's cool that there's a station in the UK that'd never gone below 1'C

Yes that is pretty severe.
The Richter scale is logarithmic, so severity increases pretty rapidly.

GFS still calling for some very cold temperatures in this part of the world in about 10 days. The Euro is not quite so extreme and probably more realistic.

Today is our first sub 50f day in almost 6 months here. Feels really nice. Also had our first sub 40f temperature of the season this morning (in the city; Long Island was much earlier).

Wasn't really affected much by Hurricane Zeta here. Did get some heavy rain the evening Zeta was making landfall as cold front was approaching, which was pushing the hurricane away.
Got down to 44F the past two mornings and 41F in the forecast for tonight. Yesterday it failed to reach 60F (high of 59F) and was breezy so felt a bit chilly. Got up to the mid 60's today.

Another wet day today, October 2020 will be among the wettest months on record at Heathrow. 174.8mm (Oct 1987) 162.4mm (Jan 2014) 155.5mm (Oct 1960) 155.4mm (Oct 2000) 151.2mm (Nov 1970) 151.0mm (Nov 2002) 150.3mm (Aug 1977) 148.0mm (Nov 2009) 142.8mm (Nov 1974) 140.0mm (Sep 1974) 139.6mm (Oct 1949) 132.6mm (Nov 1951) 131.4mm (Oct 2020)** 139.4 mm so far for us, final score will probably be 150 or thereabouts. Of course you need more like 200 mm to get on our hall of fame list, but what's made this month feel so wet is that if you're including trace rainfall than we won't have had a single dry day all month.

Not a fan of cold rain, but this was a nice change from the frigid temperatures. Agree with that. Rain is better than snow, at least if you live in a city: less problems with traffic, cleaning, etc.

Fall is the least predictable season here. Spring has more heat, but fall can get nearly as hot and can also get below 4.
