Denver (KDEN) reached 101 today! KBDU reached at least 99, possibly 100. According to TWC, Tuesday has been downgraded to a high of 34 in Denver and 33 in Boulder. Imagine if it keeps downgrading and they get an ice day. That is truly insane, really hope it actually comes off. If it snows though, won't the ground still be much too warm for it to stick even if the air temps are below freezing?

Argh. Only 17.7 ensoleillement hours so far through the first six days of September, with more than half coming during one day. We're on pace for just 106 at the end of the month. The pattern since mid-July has been fucking annoying

High was 99.1 f today (37.3 c) which ties the all time September record high!
Unfortunately in the afternoon heavy smoke moved in, blotting out the sun which caused temps to crash during the hottest part of the day.
Thereโs been lots of September heatwaves recently:
1893-2012: Highest Sept temp was 97 2013 tied the record high hitting 97 2017 broke the record by hitting 98 2019 broke the record again hitting 99 2020 tied the new record hitting 99

Forecast high of 10C today, our coldest in about 4 months, and... a forecast low of -4C tonight, which will also be our first sub-freezing low in 4 months. Normally we start the frost season by dipping our toes in with a gentle -1C or -2C, but tonight it looks like we're potentially going straight in the deep end!

It had been looking like we would get a nice cold front later this week, but now it appears that's not happening... Yesterday NWS was showing low 80's/low 60's for the end of the week (TWC had even been showing lows in the upper 50's a couple of days ago). Today NWS has raised the temps by 10F (low 90's/low 70's). Summer continues...

With today's typhoon, Busan has reached an insane 86 inches of rain for the year (normal is 59). Still four months left to go. Has to be a record wet year for Busan

The high would be at near record cold levels, but the low won't be anything special.

That escalated quickly. Sure did. Although starting on Wednesday we're going back up to highs in the 20s and lows solidly above freezing, so nature seems to be a bit undecided at the moment...

It was supposed to hit 90 (32 c)...the actual high was 73 (23 c) due to really thick smoke. In fact it was in the low 60s until nearly 5 PM! It looked very eerie out, the sky shifted from purple in the morning to orange/yellow for much of the day before finally clearing up about 5:30 PM. It looked like a sunset about 1 PM with a bright orange glow on the horizon. This was all while it was raining ash, enough to coat sidewalks and cars. This is what the sky looked like in the afternoon:

-4C with a windchill of -6C this morning, pretty sure I'm the first person on here to record a windchill this fall (to absolutely nobody's surprise).

pretty sure I'm the first person on here to record a windchill this fall (to absolutely nobody's surprise). The only other people with a chance to beat you for cool fall temps are the nordic posters. Aussies don't count since it is winter there. Edit: Steelernation lives in Fort Collins now. Currently 1C with a wind chill of -4 there and snow expected today. Edit 2: The NWS starts showing wind chill if temps drop below 50F/10C so some US posters could record one in summer but it won't be anywhere close to freezing. For the first sub-freezing one, you or Steeler win.

We got maybe 1-2โ of wet snow this morning. Itโs still settled on the ground but has turned into sleet now, supposed to switch back to snow this afternoon. The current temp of 34 (1 c) is 45 f below average! The Cameron Peak fire to the west is the one causing all the smoke. Yesterday there were evacuations like 15 minutes NW of me. The snow and rain will definitely be helpful.

Look at that gradient. I would say that it's awesome if I wasn't on the wrong side of it.

Well forget our forecast low of -4C for last night, we went down to -5.8C at 3:00am! And that's the hourly reading, so it's possible the actual low was even colder than that. Last time we had a low as cold or colder than that was on April 15th.
Now we're going back into a few days of warmer weather with highs above 20C and even one low above 10C.
