I ended up with 10". Not bad but... Binghamton NY was the sweet spot of the storm. Forty one inches reported near there and still going. Lucky bastards. Albany had it nice too with some totals above 2 feet so far. Here's a map cambium posted this morning. That purple region is where the good stuff is. Absolutely ridiculous how widespread it is.

Record snowfall in Japan
Heavy snow has been falling across Japan and there's more to come.
Several snowfall records have been broken including Fujiwara which saw 176cm of snow in 48 hours, breaking the old record of 145cm from January 2010.

Forecast for 16°C high in Sunndalsøra Saturday. Met.no says this does not take fully into account the fôehn effect which might occur, so the Dec record of 18.3°C might challenged. Expecting 10-11°C high here. yr Sunndalsøratwitter/met,no

Did you switch over to rain? It was above freezing for several hours here. I couldn’t take an accurate measurement this morning. It’s like soft cement out there. Still snowing.

Very impressive! What temperatures were forecast with that January record high this year (IIRC on January 2?)?

Don't remember, but it was not as high as 19C If that's so, and the forecasts underestimate the foehn wind's effects, I can easily imagine that the December record high will get challenged.

Damn I’m jealous!
We haven’t had a proper snowfall since October.
The climate here is excellent but the low snowfall and stable summers would be my only complaints.

Did you switch over to rain? It was above freezing for several hours here. I couldn’t take an accurate measurement this morning. It’s like soft cement out there. Still snowing. No rain here, but there was some heavy sleet from 11pm-12am here, which then changed back to snow. That was a shame because it could've been 2-4" of additional snow, but thankfully didn't totally ruin the storm. Regarding mixing, we here in northern manhattan certainly got spared compared to eastern/southern parts of the city and LI.
Ludlow VT also reporting 44" of snow, tying the Newark Valley total.

Nice, Bunghole delivered bigly! Excuse me, but I have to resort to posting fantasy range maps in ordre to provide anything interesting to this thread. The 12z map looks a tad ridiculous with the 90 mbar difference between the Atlantic high ans the Scandi low, while the 18z means much wintrier weather for us.

The sunsets are finally starting to get later as of today! We've also got quite a roller coaster of a week coming up with highs ranging between 3C and -13C. Tonight we're at a very mild 0C, though the forecast low is -21C so it's gonna be chilly. The overall pattern for the rest of the month is fairly optimistic, not much in the way of serious deep freezes.
