Down from -1.6C at midnight to -6.5C at noon. 14cm of snow on the ground. Finally some sunshine, although very little and hazy:

Beer is known to sweat in humidity. Imagine drinking here....
Our mate Troll Lick was protesting the other day in the shoutbox that Australia cannot record dewpoints in the 60's F with temps around 110F. The time has come to throw egg in his face.

We officially had a high of 6.4C yesterday, breaking the previous daily record of 6.1C set in 1942. Our mean temperature for January is currently -7.6C, only 2.2C colder than an average March and 0.3C warmer than March 2020! And we still have highs just below freezing and lows mostly above -10C in the forecast for the entire upcoming week. This is hands down the mildest January I've ever seen. We're currently in the statistically coldest time of the year, with an average high of -12.2C and average low of -22.7C (both of which start warming up in a couple of days) and yet we haven't even hit -20C a single time this month and likely won't for at least another week. Considering how variable our climate is, that's absolutely ridiculous. Even the 14-day forecast from The Weather Network currently shows our lows bottoming out around -27C (which was our record low in November!) before rising back up toward the end of the month. Ahh, if every January was like this my opinion on Saskatoon's climate would be very different

Morningrise okay, I was feeling good about my 5'C high yesterday. And then I find out it was warmer than that in fucking SASKATOON? That's a real Chad climate right there.

Baltoscandia @ 15UTC Looks brutal in eastern finland. Sweden also recorded its lowest temperature of the season yesterday. Just shy of -40C in Nattavaara

Well it can be -60C in Oymyakon, so all the hype about this is exaggerated.

Up to a foot of snow in places could fall in places in southern MN.

Quite cool by our standards today, only 61 F (16.1 C) as of noontime. NWS has a 70 F (21.1 C) predicted high but I doubt we'll reach that.
Looks like we're getting a good stretch of cool weather from Saturday - Monday, then the forecast gets boring as fuck again.

Yet another mild and sunny day. Feels rather nice in the 40’s. Some snow tomorrow, and then overcast with occasional flurries. No good snowstorm 😑. If it’s cloudy, my only hope is getting good snow out of it.

Jesus, just saw there's a 91 km/h wind gust with 72 km/h sustained winds in Saskatoon, crazy windy! 77 gusting to 103 now Awesome! That is the same system that caused a very sudden and very strong wind event here, with torrential rain on Tuesday night.

Outside Kirkkonummi municipal administration building yesterday:
The mayor of Kirkkonummi stated that "it's unsure if this piece of art is a political statement against our policies or just spontaneous. Or is it an endorsement of our good policies, I don't know. As a municipality we do encourage artistical expressions from our inhabitants, and the sculpture shall remain as it is. However, if some citizen feels especially offended by it, they have a free rein of bringing it down."
As of tonight, it is still standing.

If the mayor is unsure, let me educate him: It's a big "fuck you" to you and your council. The Renmark council chambers could use one of those aswell.

Looks like arctic air will invade parts of western north America towards the end of the month. Hopefully we can score some cold and snow here in Vancouver. It's been a very mild winter so far.

Was just going to post this here... Look at the end... The OP 18z GFS went full arctic for us here with a lobe of the PV settling into the BC interior and alberta. 850mb temps drop to -17c by the 25th in Vancouver. The ensemble mean looks a lot more realistic but hopefully it trends down over the coming runs.

The coldest period was actually in October...so far...but that will end soon enough.
