A bit late, but there were some extremely long dry streaks in Las Vegas and nearby areas. 8 months with no rain! source: www.weather.gov/vef/2020DryStreakomegaraptor how long was the dry streak in that one city you mentioned a few times? It was getting close to a record.

It was getting close to a record. 197 days in Willows, CA, a town in the western part of the Sacramento Valley. They average about 20” of rainfall a year there. From May 30 to December 13, not a single drop of rain fell.

For those of you who have seen Melbourne's forecast posted 700,000,000 times in the shoutbox and you're wondering why it's so cold this week, this is part of the reason why. This speckled cloud is most often seen in winter, early spring and late autumn. It's basically pooled air from the deep Southern Ocean, and with no land in between here and there it makes its way up to south-east Australia. I don't know if this is a direct consequence of La Nina, but at least it can be used as a scapegoat. I hope this mentally stable explanation clears things up.

The minimum night temperature was -17.5c, the coldest since January 2019. But it seems that the next night will be even colder. 11 cm of snow on the ground.

Decently large snow if you live in the high mountains of PA (6" possible above 2500'), impressive considering this storm has minimal moisture. Definition of elevation dependent snow.

A coastal storm is set to form over the mid-Atlantic tonight and impact New England over the weekend.

Actually yes, nice you asked, because I had no idea. Actually, it's the 1st -20C recorded on the 15th on record. Previous 15 Jan record was -19.6C from 1976.
Fuck that, I'm just being a mongoloid. I looked at mean temps. 4th coldest 15 Jan temp recorded. For the Artukainen station (since 2003) it is actually a new daily record.
As I mentioned in the shoutbox, this temp was the coldest recorded since January 2016, and the 3rd reading below -20C since.

36 F now with considerable snow showers. But no accumulation. Have an interesting phenomenon happening here. An occluded front is passing through 🙂.

-25.2C at turku airport. would be interesting to see the difference between artukanien and lentoasema throughout the year, now when they have proper observations from there again.

It's almost always colder. Especially the lows.

Bit of a strawman there as I never said Aus couldn't see that but rather it would be much rarer than the persian gulf
