London's getting some snow, too. looks cozy. Some Americans are replying with "why aren't people wearing masks?!"

I don't know enough about this river to know if that is rare or not. if it can freeze on December 4th, it seems like it should freeze often. Daily data for November 1917 in Pittsburgh is not that cold, a few ice days but nothing below 19 for lows. Then December starts off in the 40s. That doesn't seem like enough to freeze moving water. The really cold weather didn't appear until the 9th when it dropped below zero. nowdata.rcc-acis.org/pbz/

Warm and with higher dews than recently here today, currently 80 F (26.7 C) with a 66 F (18.9 C) dew point. Just boring fuckwit type of weather.
This morning's low was 61 F (16.1 C) and we're at the afternoon high now.

Renmark Aero on track to set a new minimum temp record in the last 24 hours. previous record of 30.4c was set in Jan 2020. As of 7.00am South Australian time, the lowest temp since 9.00am yesterday is 31c. The Town site has record high minimum of 32.4c in Jan 1982

It's a cold night in Saskatchewan today, warmest location in the entire province is Cypress Hills Provincial Park at -16C. Our provincial cold spot (Collins Bay), at -40.4C, is also the cold spot for all of Canada.

If you love instability
Earlier in January, Seoul reached -18.6c, the coldest temperatures in 36 years
Yesterday it reached 13.9c which is only 0.5c off the all time Seoul record. Today itโs 13.3c already, and perhaps can even touch 14c. So weโve seen Seoul come within breathing distance of both sides of records

The amount of awesome lows destroyed is criminal. I miraculously only lost 0.2C, so the BOM low is 31.0C. However, if Renmark was about 100m to the east the sun would've been risen a couple of seconds earlier and I would've got the full 31.2C. I'm just so fortunate that the low will be recorded as a clean 31C.

We had the first thunderstorm of 2021 around midnight tonight. It had been cloudy all day and became drizzly in the evening, but we got some lightning, thunder, and moderate to heavy rain from around 23:30 to midnight. It was less impressive than a spring or summer thunderstorm, but it was still nice to see some interesting weather for the first time since I got back to Oklahoma. It was around 48ยฐF/9ยฐC for the duration of the event. You mean because it would be 9am sooner or because the sun would warm the station and keep the temperature from sinking?

You mean because it would be 9am sooner or because the sun would warm the station and keep the temperature from sinking? Hey Babu, Hey. The BOM has a habit of recording temps 9am-9am. What that means it that if an overnight low to 9am is higher than the temp at 9am the morning before, then the "low" for that particular overnight will be recorded as the temp at 9am the morning before. E.g. Thursday at 9am it is 20C. The low Thurs night into Friday morning is 25C. So Friday morning's low will be recorded as 20C. My 100m east remark was merely tongue in cheek due to the narrow margin the low got 9am'd by. Like when the high temp is 39.9C, it would've been 40.0C if the station was 1m to the left. Get it, tonge in cheek.

The BOM ain't gunna change the measuring times.... they've been doing it this way since they came into existence in 1908. And I think ( unsubstantiated ) its a WMO Standard as well. It is what it is and changes would mean non comparable records etc. Doesn't bother me at all ....long term data stays the same.

Babu although Beercules would still have a point even if you were to take his post super-literally; moving farther east would mean the sun would rise and set earlier, allowing there to be a little more solar heating between sunrise and 9am.

-48C windchill this morning, I think that's our coldest of the season. Air temperature is -34C, so that's a 14C difference which is actually quite significant. We don't usually get enough wind for that kind of a difference early in the morning.

2.1C and overcast at 4 p.m. in Riga. Calm before the storm. Heavy snow is coming soon with a low moving northwards from Ukraine to Baltics. Orange weather warning is issued. Power outages are highly likely. Good that I have to work from home.
