Could be some significant cold across northern areas of the PNW (Vancouver area) if the trough modeled across north america next week trends west. 18z gfs shows lows pretty close to -10c (14f) for Vancouver proper and -16c (3f) in some of the eastern suburbs next Wednesday morning. We're really, really overdue for some significant cold. The last time Vancouver airport dropped below -10c was way back in Dec 2013. Compare that with the average where the airport should see temps below -10c about two times per year.

Yeah it's gonna be a cold one for sure! Our forecast low for Sunday got downgraded to -39C now. I'm kind of hoping we'll hit -40, I mean if it's gonna be this cold we may as well just go all the way, right?

What's remarkable to me is the duration of the cold. The GFS is forecasting temps to stay below freezing in central Oklahoma for eight days, a feat that hasn't happened here since 1983. It is also showing three consecutive days not getting above about 20°F/-7°C. Yet nothing is forecast below 8°F/-13°C, which is close to our average annual minimum temperature. But that would still be the coldest weather we've gotten since 2018.

An extreme cold warning is officially in effect for Saskatoon. Tonight we're dropping down to -30C, and there is not a single high above -20C in the forecast for the coming week. Thankfully the 14-day forecast is currently showing a steady warming trend afterwards, so this should just be a single week of severe cold and then by the time we're in late February the potential for prolonged cold snaps of this sort goes down dramatically. Hopefully we will be out of the woods at that point (but if the past few years are any indication, wintery weather will probably persistent annoyingly late into March and April)

We’re getting absolutely screwed by this cold snap. Epic cold up north and in the plains, big snowstorms in the Midwest and what do we get? Per TWC a week of 28/7 sunny days. Boring as fuck, annoying cold and no damn snow to show for it. Either be like 20/0 or colder, snow, or be mild, anything else can piss off. For fucks sake we have the same fucking forecast as Oklahoma.
Yes, it’s not Shitchester but now it’s been months since I lived there so the “at least it’s not Shitchester” weather thought process has worn out so now I will rage at weather I don’t like no matter how short lived or unusual it is or how much I like the climate.

So far winter has only reached 9F/-13C at the airport. Even though almost every station gets colder than the airport, that's the official temp. I don't think any winter has made it to February without getting colder but I didn't check every one. But now I have a solid foot of snow on the ground and several sub-zero lows, maybe even a sub-zero high. This is starting to look like 2018-2019 which was mild to start. After a few snow storms in the second half of January, the end of the month had the coldest day since 1996. This winter started mild, with the first real snow on December 29th, but the snow has not melted since then. The past two weeks saw a few snow storms, and it snowed again today. Now it's February, and the forecast is cold for at least a week. Unlike 2019, there is no extreme cold in the forecast. None of these days are close to breaking records.
Temps in F. 14F = -10C and -9F = -23C
I didn't include the last few days because it started looking warmer and it looks better if I do it like this

Got sweet fuck all in the way of storm activity. However, it did get to 30C which was 3-4C above forecast. Also remained sunny for a large portion of the morning and afternoon which was nice.

TWC is now showing me with an ice day next Friday - 32/17F! It has about an inch of snow Thursday night/Friday morning. I think last time I had an ice day was January 2014 (occurred 3 times that month)! Nearly had an ice day January 2018 with a high of 33F on New Year's.

Interesting, it looks like today's low is actually going to happen in the afternoon.
We had a forecast low of -30C for the night but I woke up to -23C and that was the coldest temperature up to that point so I was thinking the forecast was way off. But upon further investigation, it seems that the temperature is supposed to drop down to -29C throughout the day. Indeed it is now -25C.
Very windy, too. Windchill of -38C right now, not super common to see windchills approaching -40 when the air temperature is in the mid -20s.

The vortex predictions seem to be strengthening over southern lower. We may see a below 0 night in places away from the lakes. I'll certainly be driving to find out, knowing my car thermostat overestimates by 3-5 F.

It just ocurred to me that the -14.6C high on 15 January was the coldest high in Turku since January 2016! Yes it was cold, but didn't know it was 5 years since the last time.

Minimum temperatures in Götaland last night. Horn had -26.6C, which was the lowest temperature in all of Sweden. Pretty rare for southern Sweden to have the coldest low this time of the year.

Back to boring ass weather here, had a nice cool morning with a low of 53 F (11.7 C) at the airport, which means around 50 F (10 C) here more than likely. 75/49 at HWO and 75/56 at FXE at the moment so a noticeably difference in dews between being further inland and closer to the coast today, DP is 59 F (15 C) at FLL which is closer to the coast.
Headed up to 80 F (26.7 C) today with sunny skies.
