This is probably the craziest model porn I've ever seen. Holy shit! I don't think it will actually get that cold. Maybe go down into the teens at night. Daytime will be in the mid 20's - low 30's.

The (new) lowest national temperature of this winter in the north-east of the country was recorded, it is 0.2c degrees colder, that is -26.1c. As well in Võru the day was colder than yesterday, high was -10.5c, low -21.3c. There was a halo around the sun.

Scotand could be having a historically cold night, some bone chilling temperatures as of 9pm, and it's only going to get colder. Currently -16C in Altnaharra. It's not just isolated places getting serious cold either, cities like Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, etc. Are also in the freezer.

Kinbrace, a small village in northern Scotland was -19C at 9pm!! At this rate it looks set to record the coldest UK temp for decades, if not challenge for the record low.

Edit: coldest spot was Mühlhausen, Thuringia with -26.7 °C this morning (my step sister lives there lol), quite a few places recorded diamond dust last night. I was going to post that! Awesome cold in central Germany! That's the coldest temp in lowland Germany since when? 2018, or earlier? I'm pretty sure 2019 and 2020 didn't reach that.

This afternoon our windchill finally rose above -40 for the first time in almost three days, for an entire hour before dropping back down below, where it will remain overnight and through most (or all) of tomorrow. Extreme cold warning is still in effect and is unlikely to go away until at least this weekend.

Models playing with my nerves for tomorrow night's snow. Paris is so close to getting fuck all! Getting a layer is important as it might pave the way for interesting lows where it's substantial, as that UKMO run I posted earlier shows. Eventually that's precisely what happened: Aaaand... 19°C on the French Riviera today! Today's max temps:

This is probably the craziest model porn I've ever seen. Holy shit! Map of snowfall according to the 12z GFS. The 18z run brought my snowfall down to 8" with a min low of 2F the morning of the 16th.

Ushuaia Airport recorded extremes of 12.0°C/27.0°C. Not an all-time high but still an astonishing temperature for Ushuaia.
The Antarctic peninsula was also affected by the hot plume, Marambio recorded 3.3°C/12.6°C.
According to this paper, changes in stratospheric ozone could have been the leading cause to this shift of patterns.
The location of the anticyclone and the hot plume can be easily spotted:
Enormous difference between the northern and the southern parts of Tierra del Fuego, even though all the area was subject to northern winds. San Sebastián and Río Grande received cold maritime winds that kept them cool and foggy the whole day. On the other side Ushuaia (Airport + Río Olivia stations) got the north winds as foehn.

Our forecast low for tonight is -35C but we're already there at 10:00pm. Maybe this will just be a very stable night where it doesn't really continue dropping, or maybe the forecast is all wrong and we'll go for a third -40 night this month?

3rd straight ice day today with a high of 23 (-5 c). Looks like it won’t break freezing until Tuesday and at the rate the coldest temps keep getting pushed back, it could be later.
There were some flurries this morning but nothing stuck. The one problem with this cold snap is the lack of snow.
