I hear it's so cold that the power infrastructure is overloaded and they're gonna start doing rolling blackouts. Goddammit.

Crocuses are coming out now. With every day forecast to be above 10C for the next 8 days, it’s starting to feel a lot like spring. There is a tree across my street. I can see some pink/purple buds even now right after a cold spell. Won't be till late March for the earliest budding those. Unless this year is totally fucked?

Chicago is getting Lake effect snow. It can get some, but a large event like this is not common and downtown seems to be the center of the action. At 9pm Midway Airport reported this: 8F/-13C, Heavy Snow Blowing Snow Humidity 80% Dew point 3F/-16C Wind N 17 mph / 27km/h Visibility 0.25 miles / 400 meters Sky conditions VV003 (Vertical visibility 300 feet) Many flights were canceled today.

I forgot what 10 C feels like. It's been that long. We are going to get hit with some heavy snow tonight. NWS saying 5-8" of accumulation, followed by single digit nights. Good news . Snowpack expected to stick around until April, when my average high rises to 50 F, and low is 33 F. Wisconsin and minnesota will have snow potentially stick around even around mothers day. Tell your mommy no picnic this time. My part of Wisconsin won't have snow until Mothers day. April 1st is very unlikely. Some stations in the UP and northeast Minnesota can see snow cover that late (May 9th this year) but not often.
Can Detroit or whatever station you use see steady snow cover through March? Milwaukee has not. It probably did in 1881 but no snow depth data back then. Madison just made it in 2013, with 1" on the 31st and a trace on the 1st.

Updated, more zoomed out. Ridiculous in the south. Houston colder than Anchorage and eastern Greenland.

Temperatures yesterday morning dropped as low as -5C (23F) even on South Padre Island TX (RIP Coconuts). It was so cold that hundreds of cold stunned Turtles have had to be rescued.

Dallas or Minneapolis? Looks like my forecast lol. Except on average Dallas is supposed to be seeing temps I'd normally expect in may.

I’m getting used to things budding and blooming earlier in recent years. Magnolia trees for example have been in full bloom as early as March, while in the past they might not bloom until May.

So, yesterday came within a hair away of hitting 90 F (32.2 C), with an 89 F high (31.7 C) w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KFXE.html82 F (27.8 C) with a 74 F (23.3 C) dew point as of 11 am, nasty ass weather. Headed up to 85 F (29.4 C) with a chance of afternoon storms today.
