^^ Preposterous weather. Babu you're talking about weekly rents right? Btw I also like that library building. Haha no, monthly rent. 300-400$ is what a cheap 2 bedroom 80m2 condo would cost per month. The normal price of purchasing such a condo would be about 250-300k$ in Umeå. The fact that those fancy condos have the same rent with only about twice the price of purchase is pretty incredible. Edit: Nvm, they're actually 500k$ to purchase and 400$/mo rent. www.hemnet.se/bostad/lagenhet-3rum-centrum-umea-kommun-kungsgatan-63d-16480576

Who would want to invest in a $600k apartment if the rent is that low? 300$/month sounds incredibly cheap for what looks like a bunch of extremely desirable places to live.

It's a condo, so you purchase the apartment, and then pay less rent compared to normal apartments. A non-condo apartment would be about 900$/mo for that size. So you pay 500k$ but then the rent is barely half as high as a normal apartment, and later on you can sell the apartment and make back the investment. You purchase the right to rent the apartment. You can then sell the right to rent the apartment to someone else, like normal real estate. I suppose that if you put 500k$ in index funds, you'd earn much more on average than that 500$ rent difference. But then again real-estate tends to increase in value too so yeah. There's always pros and cons. However, compared to other condos, it's a really good deal.

In Sweden it's basically "rent apartments until you have a steady job and a few dozen thousands, then get a mortgage and buy a condo"

Sounds like what we'd call charges de copropriété, or condo expenses I guess.

But it's really not different in any way from normal rent.

Pics of wintry precip accumulation. Probably the most sleet I've seen. Maybe an event in 2014 was close. Did get a bit of light snow toward the end of the event. I wonder how these palms will do.

Drove to Squamish yesterday since I had a day off. Weather was 7C with stray rain showers and snow in the mountains, as can be seen in some shots.

Quite the warmup since last weekend! Drove soufffff to take a stroll in a snowy forest. Colder than Paris, it was comfortably below freezing in the aftrnoon, around -3°C, while Orly airport almost reached freezing. Creeks are a-freezin' [...] 18.5°C yesterday, same weather today: Lots of people out and about
