Heavy snow on Thursday, around 10-12cm. Predictably everyone was driving like a lunatic. Significant thawing today though

Uh okay so this is strange. I now, instead of a frosty mosaic, have a single large clean sheet of ice. Never seen anything like this before in my life. Talk about "frosted glass".] still frosted in fragments on the edges; wonder what determines the ice type The frost melted away an hour later, despite it being -11'C with only a 5° sun angle. I guess it was the frosty flakes melting and then rapidly re-freezing again, or something like that, that created the ice sheet.

I went up to Rocky Mountain yesterday with a friend and hiked to a lake called The Loch. Distance: 6.0 miles Trailhead elevation: 9,175’ Highest elevation: 10,200’ Car thermometer said 28 (-2 c) at the trailhead and 31 (-1 c) when I was leaving. Was probably in the 20-25 f range when I was actually hiking. Saw some bighorn sheep on the drive up < The hike started in the trees. Got to a frozen waterfall about half a mile in Pretty frozen river Eventually mountains started peaking through the forest It kept climbing before eventually entering a windy as fuck open stretch. Nice views of cliffs and mountains though. The Loch was gorgeous and frozen over. Extremely windy though, I was having trouble just standing up and the wind chill was probably sub-0 so we snapped a few photos and hurried back into the woods Mountains on the way down Views from the trailhead >

greysriggingNice photos! Seeing as this is the 2020/21 thread, you technically should've posted these either in the old 18/19 thread, the Non-Weather photos thread, or its own thread. I'll let you keep it in this thread if you want, or you can move it on your own to a viable thread of your choosing.

Was just helping AA out with the post count so he could be no 1 on the next page....lol ! And yeah I did realise after that perhaps shoulda been elsewhere. Still an example of the north and south divide in the Continent.... Happy to move it all.... ( still a bit new here so don't wanna be too much of a goose ( yet.... )

Scenery shots from my fishing trip in the Tumut region (15–19 Jan): • 15 / 01 / 2021 Blowering foreshore in the afternoon, with pre-frontal conditions evident by the scattered clouds and strong W to WSW winds; however, being a clipper front, it didn't pack much of a punch this far north (35.3°–35.6° S). Max temp 26° C @ 380 m AMSL (approx. altitude of the shoreline). Turnoff into Jounama Dam, on the northeasternmost boundary of the Bago State Forest. Then onwards to Talbingo. Talbingo (410 m AMSL); increased and darkened cloud cover, with the WSW'er blowing more vigorously. Spectacular views of Big Talbingo Mountain (1,373 m AMSL) with a base-to-peak prominence of exactly 1 km. Bushfire damage very evident, and IMO, it's an improvement to the mountain's aesthetic—can almost be mistaken for somewhere in the Western US! Talbingo Dam (shoreline altitude of approx. 550 m AMSL) in the late afternoon to dusk. Temp down to 23° C, later 19° C, with a fierce WSW'er at times and further increased cloud cover. • 16 / 01 / 2021 Wereboldera on a cool, sunny post-frontal morning; temp 12° C. Jones Bridge along the Hume & Hovell Walking Track, by which one can travel 121 km to Yass (via Wee Jasper) entirely on foot—the suspension bridge measures 60.2 m in length, and 9.3 m in height. Strikingly tall Black Poplar trees, some of which are likely to exceed heights of 30 m. The old Snowy Mountains Trout Farm can be seen lower down in this album, as well as an echidna…and no shortage of plum trees to steal from. A fairly cool 14°–18° C from noon to midday (@ 290 m AMSL); cloud and wind increasing gradually. Tumut Plains in the afternoon; on a lovely property with the river winding right through it. Max temp 22.5° C @ Blowering Holiday Park (278 m AMSL) shown in the first photograph below: Blowering Dam in the late afternoon to dusk. Partly cloudy, blowing a brisk WSW'er and 20° C; later, 16° C. • 17 / 01 / 2021 Blowering Dam on a cool, sunny, and calm morning of 8° C, which later gave way to a pleasantly warm afternoon of 27° C. I'd crossed the dam wall to one of the lesser-known fishing spots on the northern shores, and was met with a daunting climb down a steep, rocky face to the water's edge (especially with all the gear to carry!). I later returned to my initial spot onwards from about 3 PM (with more than a 2 km slog between them). • 18 / 01 / 2021 Jounama Creek and Talbingo under clear, summery skies, jointly with the Tumut 3 Power Station. A calm and balmy late morning of 17° C; giving way to a hot and windy afternoon of 30° C. • 19 / 01 / 2021 Two emus sighted at Blowering, and maxed at 32° C on the foreshore—the hottest day of my trip.

The results of yesterday's class 2 warning blizzard. There's another class 2 warning blizzard tonight. I'm very lucky my balcony door opens inward, because I found out yesterday that tenants have an obligation to shovel their balconies. Luckily 2.5×1.5×1 meters of snow only weighs about 500kg, which a balcony really should be able to hold. Although wind-packed snow can weigh as much as 400kg/m³ which would mean 1.5 ton... I doubt this snow has a 1:2.5 liquid-to-snow ratio though... I hope... I'll shovel tomorrow after the final blizzard, because I'm curious to see how bad it can get lol. Inb4 famous last words before the balcony breaks off from the building....

Some really nice shots there knot, seems like you had a nice trip! How come most trees are bare in most of the areas? The first two spoilers look like photo albums taken in the middle of a subtropical winter. Btw, while I like that you're uploading many pictures, and that you're enthusiastic about photography, some shots were pretty redundant. You don't need to include multiple images of the same motif if they're taken just a few meters or seconds/minutes apart (unless something markedly commentworthy happens inbetwetwen the shots, like for example an eagle soaring into view, or a sudden rain shower or something like that). Having fewer redundant images makes the photo viewing experience a lot nicer, and allows the viewers to spend more time looking at each photo
