Highs will be a bit cooler this week, but lows will still be well-above average and the last few days of chilly weather won't be enough to prevent February from being one of the warmest on record. Second record warmth month in a row. The average low for this month will be above the average February high. More seasonable conditions are expected to take hold for March after a blowtorch winter. Warm lovers will be frustrated that all this warmth was being wasted in the winter, yet it's extremely difficult to get spring warmth. Sunday, 2/25: Snow in the morning, heavy at times. Overcast in the afternoon. Snowfall accumulation 4-8 inches. High 34 F/1 C. Low 31 F/-1 C. Monday, 2/26: Cloudy. High 32 F/0 C. Low 28 F/-2 C. Above average pattern starting as we head into March. Jacarandopolis residents can put their winter coats away for now. Uncharacteristically warm lows as tropical air launches itself towards the metro area, creating unusually high dewpoints that would be more typical of May as opposed to early spring. The record cold January is surely nothing but a distant memory at this point

So the winter from hell will be coming to an end soon? Well, the cold won't be done quite yet, as models are showing a significant cold snap in early April. But the warmth in late March will be notable, highs around 60 F predicted! But yes the winter pattern is breaking down, and will soon give away to a much more variable spring pattern.

Monthly Summary: The theme of the extreme cold winter of 2017-2018 continues, with another very cold month. February 2018 was the 7th coldest month on record, and the 3rd coldest February on record (behind 1977 and 1978). The month started off with an extreme cold snap until the 6th, moderating a bit from the 7th-9th, then a huge blizzard striking on the 10th-11th before a record breaking cold snap hit mid-month. It moderated after the 17th, but got snowy once again. On the 21st-23rd, seasonable temps came back into the area bringing sunny skies, before it turned snowy again on the 25-26th and end the month with a brutal cold snap. February was also a very snowy month, with it being the 4th snowiest February on record and the 13th snowiest month on record overall. With a highest temp of only -10 F (-23 C), this is the lowest highest temp for a month since January 1994. It also hasn't been above 0 F since November 17th, one of the longest periods of sub-0 F weather on record. Also the average temp of -60.7 F (-51.5 C) for Winter 2017-2018 is the third coldest on record, behind winter 1977-1978 and winter 1976-1977.
Longest periods of sub-0 F weather (days in parenthesis):
1.) November 10, 1977 - March 22, 1978 (132 days)
2.) November 14, 1976 - March 18, 1977 (124 days)
