Monthly Summary: Coldest month on record! Barely beat out January 1977 by only 0.1 F (0.06 C)! Was also the snowiest January on record, and the snowiest month since November 2000. One of the rare months that combined extreme cold with extreme snowfall, due to a couple of intense blizzards, particularly the January 22nd - 24th event. There was a very lengthy, unprecedented, extreme cold snap in the middle of the month which shattered all-time records. It was so cold, the winter festival which is usually held between January 12th and 18th was cancelled, the first time that happens in 40 years (since January 1978). Mild spell on January 27th-28th prevented the month from beating the all-time record coldest month by much.

That season totaled 1002.3" (2550 cm) of snowfall.
