I guess I'll do the same thing as everyone else is doing. Find the most anomalous feature of this awful year! Hottest July ever? Driest year? Warmer March?

No, 1986 2009 1961 1954 were all drier. I love how invisible it is. I'll say it after one more guess at it. Warmest July? Or warmest record low in July?

Wrong again, July 2012 is only the seventh. (1st and 2nd are, of course, 1934 and 1936). The insane month is March. The month of March 2012 was 14.2F above average. If it had been April instead of March, it still would have been 4F above average. For more comparison, April 2018, the coldest/second-coldest (depending on station) April on record, was only 7F below average.

A few more historical weatherboxes from Saskatoon, these ones from more recent years... 2001 was the driest year on record in Saskatoon and the 4th warmest on record by yearly mean. It had a fairly warm summer and is the only year I'm aware of where we hit 30C on six separate months. 2010 was the wettest year on record in Saskatoon. The late spring/summer temperatures were quite lackluster but the epic storm season certainly helped to make up for that. 2011 was the sunniest year on record in Saskatoon. The summer was a bit below average but September was among the warmest on record and December was very mild by local standards and featured the warmest Christmas Eve on record, with a high of 6.8C that day. 2012 was my personal favorite climatic year in Saskatoon. It featured the mildest winter on record in the city, an above average summer and early fall, the longest frost-free growing season (160 days), and a record setting thunderstorm season. In addition to being the mildest on record, the winter was also one of the driest and sunniest. Spring was a bit on the mild and wet side, and then summer kicked into high gear and was one of the best I've experienced here. July 2012 in particular was an epic month for us, with conditions more closely resembling Southern Ontario than the prairies. The lows were well above average with a record low of 11C for the month (the warmest I'm aware of for any month in Saskatoon), humidity was high through most of the month with numerous days featuring tropical dew points, and the numerous storms we had were more intense than usual. Fall was off to a great start with September being several degrees warmer than average and extremely dry and sunny (77.5% of possible sunshine), and then it all came crashing down in October with persistent chilly and gloomy weather (32.2% of possible sunshine). The snow season began early and then a below average late fall and winter followed with above average snowfall. It was at the end of this year that I moved to Vancouver. Needless to say, I didn't experience any years this epic over there!

The insane month is March. The month of March 2012 was 14.2F above average. Looks like I was the only one to guess right! March 2012 was βonlyβ 13.0 f above average here. February 2015 was more anomalous at 14.2 f below average.

The absolute most anomalous month was December 1983, 18.3F below average.

Here is 2014 here.
Quiz:
Why was this an interesting weather year here?
Ok some features have been guessed: 1. Warmest year ever 2. Second warmest month ever - July 3. Second warmest Feb
3. One of the driest Nov
But the largest anomaly imho is Jan, and especially seen in combinaton with Feb. Nearly no precipitation for two full winter months! Driest month at Trondheim-Værnes is 0.8 mm in Jan 1972, so this was drier at Trondheim - Lade.
The scientist, and our official predictions up untill then was expecting warmer and wetter climate. But these winter months were so dry, and Feb dry and warm - that we had no snow on the ground, dry vegetation - and several large wildfires. In mid-winter darkness at 64Β°N. Such as in Flatanger, 65 buildings consumed
And on FrΓΈya (island):
This seems to have been almost inconceivable for the scientists up untill then, but nature presented a surprise. We have seen wildfires in winter before, but nothing on that scale.
Now official documents also mention that weather pattern seems to get stuck longer than before, and for us here in Mid-Norway most seasons have got drier, not wetter, the last decades. Actually only spring have got wetter here, other seasons drier.

Please god fucking help Melbourne arrgghhhh. Did this as it is the year of the Melbourne Olympics....it ended up just being interesting to go through each month as it got worse and worse. The only decent months are february and march, march for being consistently warm and february for having some good heat. Only 4 days between the 1st of March (when it reached 31.2) and the 31st of December that got over 30C. Those 4 days were in November and December, 30.3, 30.4, 30.9 and 31.1. Quite a wet and probably very cloudy year. Also only one month with less than 10 days precipitation.
