Burlington, Vermont's coldest year on record. Every month was below average.

What was up with spring that year? Sept and Oct were both record cold in terms of maxima AND minima.

1929 here, easily the best year in the old 1912-1931 dataset here. Strongly Mediterranean, and pretty warm by that time period's standards, though today this year would be slightly below average in fact, compared with the new normals.

Crested Butte, Colorado's coldest year on record. Also a very bizarre year. February, March, April, November, & December all had a colder average high than January. Only 10 lows were above freezing that year. Peak snow depth reached 90 inches on April 7th. Most likely erroneous values. Everywhere else in western Colorado was below average that January so no way Crested Butte randomly had 15 f above average highs. I also donโt trust those average lows, why randomly so warm in February? The summer months are all easily 3-4 f colder than the next coldest lows and no UHI there now and it wasnโt a drought year so that makes no sense.

Two amazing years here. They are amongst the snowiest, if not the snowiest years here. But I also like how the summers had one month significantly warmer than the others (July 1967 and August 2015). Gotta love the seasonal lag as well with cold temps and snow with longer daylight hours.

Hereโs Rye since 2010, awesome climate: Not shown in the weatherbox but 7 days a year get >6โ of snow and 1-2 days get 12โ. 2010: > < 2011: < 2012: > < 2013: > < 2014: > < 2015: > < 2016: > < 2017: > < 2018: > < 2019: > < 2020: > < 2021: > <

Hereโs Lake Vida, Antarctica in 2021: Looking at those winter months, Iโm almost positive this is the worldโs most variable region. Every month from April-September has a >80 f range in highs, nowhere else in the world gets that in a month except maybe Alaska or some parts of the northern plains in a rare year, but certainly not with such regularity. The largest diurnal range was 16/-52 f on September 10th (-9/-46 c). The largest day to day change in highs was 57 f on 3 different occasions. Also a total of 4 days had 60 f diurnals.

Hereโs the 1977-1978 snow season where September was the snowiest month. I think itโs incredible the 4th warmest month on average thatโs typically over 30 f warmer than the winter months can be the snowiest month. I guess it takes an exceptional September cold snap + extreme drought the rest of the season. January 1971 was snowier so thatโs why I used the 1971-1972 water year. For the weather box just imagine the months are the corresponding NH month.
