I am shocked. I have never seen the Yankees look this bad in my 13 years of watching baseball. Theyโre like 4-14 in August ffs Apparently this is the worst streak since the 1995 season. I recall Jack Curry on YES saying back in June or July that the Yankees will be in the post-season barring a catastrophic collapse. Well here we are. Obviously they're still in the lead and it's not too late but they have to turn the tide quickly. 2017 Dodgers had a 1-16 stretch, and ended up making it to Game 7 of the World Series. So these things happen, but the tide needs to change quickly to avoid a catastrophe

Each day the AL MVP race looks like it will be more and more historic. Honestly both of them should get the MVP title at this point

2017 Dodgers had a 1-16 stretch, and ended up making it to Game 7 of the World Series. And that right there is the problem with baseball. Being that bad for that long and still nearly winning a championship shows just how much games donโt matter. When you can go 1-16 or worse and end up just fine, I would have absolutely no reason to care about individual games.

Not caring about individual games is going to land you out of the playoffs Yeah obviously the coaches and players care about individual games but as a fan it seems very hard to. Of course it adds up eventually but still if u can lose 15 games in a row and have it not matter, Iโm not sure why youโd care about the first 140 ish games individually.

#60 for Judge! Ties Babe Ruth
He is also currently leading in all the Triple Crown categories! Unbelievable year

#62 for Judge! Caps off one of the greatest offensive seasons in modern history. Not only did he hit 62 homeruns while playing solid defense in Center Field, but he also recorded 11.5 WAR. He also had an insane 207 WRC, which means he was more than twice as good as the average hitter. And if you prefer traditional stats, he is a couple of batting average points away from winning the Triple Crown. Just an insane season by any standard

Blue Jays blew an 8-1 lead and lost to the Mariners. Epic collapse.

I know next to nothing about Baseball but Iโve seen some media fuss about the World Baseball Classic, in which Japan defeated the USA in the final, but it made me wonder a couple of thingsโฆ
1. Donโt Americans usually send second-tier teams for these competitions, as top names stay in the local league, which is by itself the strongest in the world? How โsignificantโ is this victory for Japan?
2. How good is this Ohtani guy? He seems to be portrayed as a godly super-star, but Iโm not sure if these are some over the top comments because of his background (Japanese/non-American) or if he is that good. Which Basketball and Football (Association) players would be comparable with him?

Which Basketball and Football (Association) players would be comparable with him? 1. The USA definitely didn't send their second-tier team for the World Baseball Classic. A lot of good players didn't show up due to a risk/fear of getting injured, but most superstars still played on the team. The USA's offensive lineup for this tournament was top notch.Their pitching however was kind of shitty due to what I said about injuries, a lot of USA's top pitchers didn't show. This victory is still very significant for Japan. 2. Ohtani is a one in a million athlete. Nobody in the history of baseball (with the exception of Babe Ruth) could dominate both pitching and hitting like this guy, while still having elite speed when running on the diamond. He truly is a godly super-star since he dominated both sides of the ball in the way he does. I don't think anyone in any other sport can compare in all honesty, maybe a guy in soccer who's simultaneously an amazing goalie while being one of the top strikers / goal scorers in the game? That's how I would compare it, but I'm not that knowledgable in football / soccer.

That's how I would compare it, but I'm not that knowledgable in football / soccer. Ohtani is better than Babe Ruth, at least as a pitcher. The Bambino only pitched for a couple years in the dead ball era, and he wasn't a great pitcher. Ohtani has a top 5 fastball, plus slider, and top 3 splitter in baseball. Marcelo Ohtani's equivalent in basketball would be someone who is as good of a shooter and passer as Steph Curry and has the athletic tools of Wilt or Giannis. His equivalent in fรบtbol would be if Maradona was 6 feet tall and also the best defender of all time. In other words, alex992 is correct that Ohtani caliber players do not exist in any other team sport.

A minor league game had one team throw a no hitter, but they lost 7 to 5. I love the weird stats you get in baseball with how many games there are.
They got 1 out away from winning 3-0, then gave up 7 runs. Three of those came when the center fielder dropped a fly ball that would have ended the game. The rest were on walks, hit by pitches, and wild pitches.

Damn, there really hasn't been any posts in this thread all baseball season. Lets get this thread back on track, shall we?
Marlins beat the Pirates last night 2-0, which improves their record to 45-34. 7-3 in the last 10 games too. What a great season it has been! Knowing the Marlins, they're gonna fuck it up somehow.

Yankees are insanely boring this season. Not fun to discuss
Ohtani is really fun to watch this year. 26 Homeruns as a pitcher and it's not even July. He is crazy
