Damn, there really hasn't been any posts in this thread all baseball season. Lets get this thread back on track, shall we? Marlins beat the Pirates last night 2-0, which improves their record to 45-34. 7-3 in the last 10 games too. What a great season it has been! Knowing the Marlins, they're gonna fuck it up somehow. For the first time in my life the marlins are fun to watch. Going to attend a game soon. Fuck yeah. This is best team since the 2003-2009 era for the Marlins. I might go to a game when I'm down there in late July.

2017 Marlins were really good. If I recall they ran into some poor luck with Run distribution

As a Mets fan all I can say is, we have no bullpen and it hurts not having Edwin Díaz, our chances were slashed back when he got hurt. If it really is your year, let's hope you beat up on the Braves and Phils.

2017 Marlins were really good. If I recall they ran into some poor luck with Run distribution They still had a losing record, but they were better than the Braves, Mets, and Phillies that year, which seems unthinkable to us today. The Nats won the division, those mid 2010s Nationals teams were annoyingly good. They should've been good in the late 2010s but letting go of key players like Yelich was dumb.

2017 Marlins were really good. If I recall they ran into some poor luck with Run distribution Yeah, 2017 Marlins just had a terrible bullpen that blew a ton of leads. That team could've been something special with a good bullpen. Marlins smash the Red Sox tonight, 10-1, improving their record to 46-34! Jazz getting 3 hits and 3 RBIs in his return, Joey Wendle with a 4 hit night. This team is playing their asses off right now! This was an interesting matchup because the Red Sox are my second favorite team lol. Who would've thought that the Marlins would be the third best team in the National League halfway through the season? This almost doesn't feel real lol.

It's not just the loss of Edwin Diaz screwing the Mets, nearly all your players besides Pete Alonso on the offensive side are underperforming as well. .761 OPS from Francisco Lindor is just not gonna cut it honestly. I don't think you guys won on the Frankie Lindor deal tbh. Also signing Scherzer and Verlander was stupid IMO, two guys in their late 30s who are on the tail end of their careers. The Mets are just throwing money away with no return by this point, kinda like the Padres.

I think we won the Lindor deal, Amed Rosario and Andrés Giménez are both OPSing in the .600s this season (in the worst division in MLB, may I add), and last season was a fluke offensively for them honestly. Sure we're paying Lindor too much, but he's still young, has been decent and provides consistent gold glove defense at a premium position.
Signing Scherzer and Verlander was dumb, but they're only short-term deals. We need to build our young pitching thru the farm system to win, that was our formula in 2015.

Lol, you're making a lot of excuses. Francisco Lindor turns 30 this year, he's not some 22 year old prospect anymore. He is what he is at this point. I actually like the guy and hope he improves but there's no way you can say you actually won this deal. You're paying the guy a superstar salary for slightly above average hitting and decent defense. Not good. At least it's still not as bad as the Javy Baez deal in Detroit. And to be fair, his advanced hitting metrics are great, average exit velocity, hard hit %, xwOBA, xSLG and Barrel % are all above the 75th percentile, so it is possible he goes on a tear later in the season since he's been so unlucky. I think the NY press/media, high expectations and pressure is getting to him. I think the best move for him would be to go to a team with a more relaxed atmosphere, but still has a shot at the postseason. I think somewhere like Arizona would be great for Lindor.

Yankees are insanely boring this season. Not fun to discuss Ohtani is really fun to watch this year. 26 Homeruns as a pitcher and it's not even July. He is crazy Two more home runs last night, while also striking out 10. So now 28 home runs before the end of June, he's on pace for 57 HRs. He's unbelievable. Also not to mention he's hit 13 HRs in the last 20 games. His offensive slash line is .304/.386/.654 while also pitching to a 7-3 record with a 3.02 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 127 Ks in 95 innings. He is just insane.

I'm glad you point out Lindor's advanced stats. I actually knew we won the Lindor trade last year, as Giménez and Rosario had very lackluster advanced metrics and got a lot of BABIP luck last season iirc. Yes Lindor has been an overpay, but gold glove caliber defense (98-100th %ile outs above average 2021-2022, 89% this season) and consistent above average OPS at shortstop still makes him a very good player. Let's not forget that he finished 9th in MVP voting in 2022 and is on pace for a 33hr, 110rbi season with an (unlucky) 109 OPS+. Yes, would I like Lindor to go back to 2015-2016 Lindor that hit .300+? Of course. But 2022 was still his clear 2nd best season ever at a 126 OPS+ and 107rbi.
With a great shortstop prospect Ronny Mauricio coming up slashing .311/.357/.517 to an .874 OPS in 300 PA at AAA-Syracuse, McNeil signed to an extension, this Mets infield should be set for years to come, provided we also extend Pete. Our pitching is the clear problem and we should consider flipping Brett Baty or Mark Vientos for good bullpen arms or solid starters.

Maybe this is too far, but I think we might be witnessing the single greatest season of all time.

Marlins finish the sweep in Boston! Won 2-0 tonight despite being no-hit through 7 innings. Jon Berti with an RBI single in the 8th and Jazz with a home run in the 9th! 48-34 for the Fish now, apparently the first time they're 14 games above .500 since the 2003 season. Is this some sort of premonition?

Marlins got crushed by the Braves yesterday 16-4, I knew I had a bad feeling about this series against them with how hot they've been recently. Marlins just can't keep up with them.
On an unrelated note, Shohei hit his 30th (yes, 30th) home run of the season yesterday. Unbelievable. 4 homers in the last 3 games for him! And it was a 493 foot missile. Longest home run of the season in the MLB?

At least the Mets notched a win today -- 7 shutout innings from Justin Verlander in prime form.

Where did Ohtani’s HR last night even land? Hard to tell from the video, maybe the camera guy didn’t zoom out far enough
Most impressive thing to me about Ohtani is when he flicked a 450-foot opposite field HR into the upper deck in Texas. Didn’t even look like he crushed it, I thought it was going to be a weak pop up to left field

Was absolutely demolished. Yeah the guy has insane power. Sometimes it doesn't even look like he got all of it and it ends up being a 440 foot homer with like a 112 mph exit velocity. Lol. He's just nuts. Marlins lost again to the Braves 7-0 the Marlins just can't with them. Outscored 23-4 in these two games, ouch. Hopefully we can avoid the sweep tonight. I hate being on the same division as this team.
