^^^ I'd say In My Life. If you remove the music, it's still good. It holds up as a piece of poetry.  Lennon really dominated that album, I think it was his songwriting peak. |

I can't imagine a better start to the album than Drive My Car, though. Just that riff, then the bass kicks in, pretty epic start to the album.

It's interesting as an opener, because it's out of step with the rest of the album, which is generally quite chilled. I think the best albums usually do start with an energetic track like that, they're the best at hooking you in. "Wouldn't It Be Nice", which The Beach Boys used to open Pet Sounds, also comes to mind. Although I think Come Together was the best opener to a Beatles album. |
