Long Way Up is the latest installment of the motorcycle journeys undertaken by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. This series was filmed in 2019. Another trip of a lifetime, this time with a twist as the team and crew used Harley Davidson electric prototype bikes and Rivian electric utility trucks as support vehicles. Beautifully filmed and narrated, the trip begins at the bottom of South America and finishes in LA. Well worth watching ! Mendoza by far. Just wish it wasn't so dry.

Ciudad Juarez looks like the most interesting one, way too dry for my tastes though.
Great thread BTW - I can tell this took a lot of time and effort.

Juarez for being the most interesting, still not good though.

Juarez for being the most interesting, still not good though. The record high for Juarez looks dodgy.....1100m asl and a 49c ? yeah, nah.....

Unfortunately, Mexican record highs must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. smn.conagua.gob.mx/tools/RESOURCES/Diarios/8030.txtJune 20, 1958. The sudden change from whole number to decimal max/min recording on July 1, accompanying a sudden drop in temps, is reason for suspicion, indeed.

The record high for Juarez looks dodgy.....1100m asl and a 49c ? yeah, nah..... Itโs neighboring city El Paso has a record high of 45.6 c, and itโs slightly cooler so that could be possible. Looking at the date tommyFL says it happens though thereโs no way itโs true. That day was only 37 c in El Paso.

Guayaquil gets my vote. The wet season is a bit too wet bit otherwise a nearly perfect climate for me.

Looking at the date tommyFL says it happens though thereโs no way itโs true. That day was only 37 c in El Paso. Even the El Paso 45.6c reading is right at the top just about of a theoretical 'high' if you use the DALR for a conversion to the equivalent sea level temps, ie; add on another 10c or so, and its a 56c at sea level ! Noticed the same thing with Pretoria's 42.5c record ( altitude 1339m ) a theoretical sea level temp of 55c ! In Australia, the best example I know of re extreme max temps at altitude is the blackfella community of Yuendemu in Central Australia, altitude 667m. They have recorded a 46.5c, DALR conversion to sea level a theoretical 52 or 53c. Outstanding considering the Australian record is 50.7c at Oodnadatta ( 121m asl ).

Puerto Montt. Cusco must be great based on looking at the climate box though I don't want to live near the Equator combined with such a high altitude location.

San Pedro Sula for having the best combination of heat and rainfall. Guayaquil as a close second.

Buenaventura, Colombia. I like its warm, very rainy climate.

How has no one picked LA yet? Far from perfect, but best of this bunch.

San Pedro Sula
It's a little warm for my tastes but the precipitation is actually adequate in amount and distribution, and it isn't a subpolar hellhole like so many of these other places.

Puerto Aisen with ease. Gets actual weather, and I'd imagine quite a lot of snow.
