jgtheone jesus, I would deadset kill myself if I lived at Lake Eildon. Worse than bloody Scotland. Wtf. 2.4 hrs/day avg in Melbourne aswell, wow, that is just suicidal. I'm speechless.. I should be thankful. You guys in Melb had an incredibly shit ass cold crummer, now this. Fuck me, I would've gone completely insane by now. What an ASS of a year. And meanwhile, we get to hear about all the record heat and storms in the US and Europe, especially the frogs at 48*N subarctic maritime poof latitude, just as I predicted. Meanwhile, the Perfff Derfffs are on 119.5 hrs mtd, so in addition to stealing my summer, they successfully stole my normal winter sunshine aswell. Congratulation. Killmyself levels of .

Yeah, definitely going to be contesting the cloudiest June in 20 years of records. The sunshine percentage at Lake Eildon must be ridiculously low, it would feel like Scotland there. And the reason it feels like Melbourne where you are is because Melbourne normally averages around 4 hours/day of sun in June which is what you've got at the moment.

It is also significantly cloudier than average, which amplifies the Melbourne simulation. This year can just flush itself down the toilet.

It actually feels sunnier than average for June here. Probably because most of the cloud this month is of southerly origin, which means a foehn effect here.

I saw a couple lightning flashes last night. Didn't hear any thunder though which is very strange because the visibility and clouds were both very low and so the mere fact that I could even see any lightning flashes indicates to me that the lightning must've been within just a couple kilometers. The whole sky lit up outsidr my window.

A stormy day for Europe and especially southern Germany today! Violent thunderstorms expected with violent winds and large hail, thanks to all that heat over there at present (and the synoptic situation of course). ESTOFEX have issued their rare "Level 3" warning. Uh oh. "A level 3 is issued for parts of Switzerland and Germany for severe convective wind gusts and large hail.SYNOPSIS A long-wave trough stretches from the Norwegian Sea to the British Isles and Spain. Between this trough and a ridge across central Europe, a deep and strong S- to SW-erly flow (20-30 m/s at 500 hPa) advects very warm to hot air as far northward as Sweden and Finland. Two embedded short-wave troughs translate from central Germany (Sun 06 UTC) to central Sweden (Mon 00 UTC) and from Catalonia (Sun 06 UTC) to central Germany (Mon 00 UTC), respectively, and modulate the position of a diffuse, wavy but otherwise stationary frontal boundary. Especially the second short-wave trough will be the main focus for severe thunderstorm activity. Further downstream, an old cut-off low over Romania, Bulgaria and W Turkey slowly fills and creates unsettled, moderately warm weather in these regions. At its forward flank, another stream of hot air from the Russian plains is directed NW-ward to Belarus and the Baltic States. The Mediterranean region and European Russia are under anticyclonic influence with calm and anomalously warm weather." Meanwhile here in blighty the Atlantic dominates with its natural Air Conditioning and uber-stable maritime layer so no warmth or storms to be seen!

A few days ago, the forecast was showing a high of 13C with heavy rain for today. Instead we had a few sunny spells and a high of 19C. If that's as bad as it gets this summer then I'll be pretty happy.
It also means June is still on track to be very dry after this cooldown failed to deliver much in the way of substantial rain - only 6mm in fact. Pretty big contrast to May which had over 100mm.

High/low of 87/69 with partly cloudy skies, and RH at 45%. Nice, quite a typical summer day here.
