Going to copy my shoutbox comments here. I believe it needs to be verified, but if the temps really continued to rise early in the afternoon, then I'm gonna say it's true (giving it the benefit of the doubt for now, as SIAS sites seem decent because airport sites had similar morning temp. patterns). Deffo a repeat of the Aug 1999 heat wave though!

89 (32 c) high today. 3rd straight day that was supposed to hit 90 and didn’t.
Very humid today, with a peak combo of 88/73 (heat index 96/36 c). The dew maxed at 74 (23 c) again.
This morning had a brief storm that brought 40 mph gusts and 0.22” (6 mm) in about half an hour.
Hopefully tomorrow hits 90 and we don’t go 0 for 4.

Burlington maxed out at 89/73; with the sun frequently blocking the sun felt very different from west coast heat. Here's Burlington the last few days; normally Burlington and the Lake Champlain lakeshore in general is a bit hotter than the rest of northern Vermont Burlington reading 81/73, Montreal Airport reading 81/72 at 9 pm; unofficial station nearby with a dew of 75 idk if that's real. Montpelier reading 79/70 but it's at the top of a hill at 1200 feet. evening storm bands cooled things a bit faster, most of the rain seemed to be north of Burlington.

Tunisia broke its all-time national record high today as well. curious how hot that Libyan station that claimed to have reached 136°F got in this heat wave, seems like a perfect setup for it to get very hot. though I don't know if this setup would mean inland is much hotter than the coast (similar to how in the PNW heatwave western Oregon was only slightly cooler than eastern Oregon). Don't think a station at that Libyan location exists anymore though. Here's the 500 mb map, clearly a "heat dome" high heights over north africa

thermal low over New England from the heat Mount Washington higher summits discussion. classic setup for convective rain storms A hovering low pressure trough will linger over western New England for the remainder of the day today and into tomorrow morning while a Bermuda High continues to build into the eastern seaboard. The heat, humidity, and sunshine will further destabilize atmospheric conditions for this evening and tomorrow. The Bermuda High will continue to pump hot and humid air northward over the forecast period. Summit temperatures will be well above normal with the added humidity making it feel muggy. However, the effects of the heat and humidity will be most prevalent at trailheads and trails in the lower elevations where temperatures will rise to the 80s and 90s as the added humidity makes it feel closer to 100 degrees in areas. As a result, NWS has posted heat advisories around the region with some going into effect today and then going into effect nearly statewide for Thursday and Friday. Scattered rain showers will pass Thursday and convective development will bring scattered thunderstorms. Stronger cells could provide heavier rainfall, hail, and strong winds.

Paradise, Washington on Mount Rainier dipped to 35°F morning one August 8 in between drizzle; which was more substantial further north (1.6" in Marblemount and I think 🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 got a decent amount). Freezing level was 12,000-13,000 feet when I was there; shows how much it can drop when a cool wet airmass arrives. Mount Washington was 45/37 the Sunday before last when we had very chilly rainy weather while in the middle of heat and humidity rose to 63/52 (maybe 5°F tomorrow and Friday). Paradise was 77/63 today during a heat wave.

A frost at Newman in the Pilbara this morning....whilst not unheard of, it is uncommon. Newman is at slight altitude ( 544m ) within the southern Hamersley Ranges and is just about right on the Tropic of Capricorn.

Hellish night. Constant thunder and lightning flashes screwed with my sleep. And I lost power for a second time overnight. Not sure how long though. Thankfully, temps were around 68 F, so not too uncomfortable for sleeping.
