With the end of May confirming the driest spring on record in YVR, it's going to be a long dry season this year it looks like. The only positive I can see is that it hasn't been completely bone dry.

Most of my May was spent in Malta, but from the last week I was back in the UK... May in Malta was warmer & drier than average, with around average sunshine. Av.Mx 25.3C (+1.1C) Av.Mn 16.5C (+0.7C) Mean 20.9C (+0.9C) Rainfall 0.9mm (9%) Sunshine 300.0hrs (98%) Back in the UK May has been much cooler & wetter than average. Though the last few days of the month were sunny & quite warm. The nearest Met Office station to me with available data is Thorney Island, but even though the averages have sunshine hours, the monthly data doesn't, so no sunshine data. Av.Mx 14.6C (-2.0C) Av.Mn 6.8C (-1.7C) Mean 10.7C (-1.9C) Rainfall 65.6mm (147%)

Extrapolate gridded Met Office data from Selsey?

Wetter than normal and -0.2C below average.
And a monthly max high only 3F cooler than here
I still really like Oulu's cold months (October-March) but their warm months are looking more and more to me. Might have to switch my favorite Finnish climate from Oulu to Tampere.

Definitely better for gardening purposes. And they had their wettest May at least since 1959:

Toronto Pearson Airport May 2021: Nothing was normal about this May. The first 11 days featured very cool and cloudy weather yet very little rain. Then we fast forwarded to summer with temperatures resembling middle of July, with a dryness (no measurable rain for 20 days) resembling September. Then we had a sharp cooldown featuring SNOW on May 28th... Average High: 19.7C (Dep +0.9C) Average Low: 7.5C (Dep +0.1C) Precipitation: 21.8mm (Only 29.3% of normal) Broke record on May 25th for the warmest May 25th in Toronto history. It was also the 5th hottest May day in Toronto history. 3 days later, on May 28th, it probably was or not far off from being the coldest May 28th in Toronto history...

Average May conditions
Mean maximum: 22.7°C | Average high: 17.2°C | Daily mean: 12.9°C | Average low: 8.5°C | Mean minimum: 2.2°C
Average precipitation: 38.3mm | Average precipitation days (>0.2mm): 13.3 | Average relative humidity: 78% | Mean monthly sunshine hours: 145.7
Actually a pretty good May by Melbourne standards. Maximums were close to average, while minimums were slightly cooler than normal. Precipitation was well above average, carried by a handful of decent rainfall events. We had 2 sub 1°C minimums, which is highly unusual. I was hoping that our highly disappointing May record low of 0.1°C would be broken (even October has a sub zero record low), but sadly, that didn't happen. The highest May 2021 temperature was similarly close to challenging our record high, meaning this May had quite a high temperature range.
