This is a thread dedicated to monthly summaries for your city/town/location for May 2021. Overall, this has been a gay, below average May with cool weather mid-month, and lacking sustained warmth [refer to this post for weather boxes for the main airports for the Rome area]. Unfortunately for some reason my PWS didn't record rainfall amounts properly earlier this month, seems fine though (hence the "NA"s for precipitation), but at least this May has been drier than normal. Here's data for my PWS: Average dew point (true average since May 7th): 11.6°C (52.9°F) Average dew point (min. dew point + difference between max/min DP / 2 since May 1st): 11.3°C (52.4°F) Average dew point (min. dew point + difference between max/min DP / 2 since May 7th): 11.6°C (52.8°F) Interesting how similar average DP's came out to be, FWIW. May 2021 Summary
May 2021 was very cold, wet and cloudy. High pressure blocking to the north saw the jetstream diving over and south of the UK, with cold-trough conditions dominating.
It was the coldest May since 1996, and the wettest since 1967.
It was the coldest April-May combination since 1983.
The highest temperature of the spring in Sheffield occurred on 31st March, not beaten at any time during April or May. The rainfall was nearly 200% of average. Rain was a mix of heavy convective downpours and frontal rain, mostly the latter.
Sleet and snow was reported in higher areas of the city.
The highlight of the month was the thunderstorms on the evening of 11th, during which a house in Sheffield was struck by lightning.

A month that will live in infamy. Wales as a whole had the coolest May in over 50 years and the wettest since records began in 1862. It broke that rainfall record with a week still left to go in the month. Overall, I seemed to escape the worst of the rain, but not the cold.

The Summary, for the Aeropuerto De' Renmarke', for the Month of Gay, 2021. 'Twas a cloudy month. Not much else to say. Sunshine, recorded at the Loxton station (40km SSW) was 156.2 hrs (5.4hrs/day), which was 0.9 hrs/day below avg. Of note is the -5.1C low on the last day of the month, which was the coldest May temp on record at either Renmark site since records began in 1889. Personally, it coincided with my days off so I was high, and got to experience it while being high. I took pics of the sunrise on the morning in question while being high, but have to sort them out.
Monomolies: high: +0.4C low: -0.7C rain: -11.2mm sun: -0.9hrs/day

A very dry, warm May. Quite unusual in that it had a very hot first week, a stable mid-month with low diurnal ranges, and the lowest temp recorded during the second half. It's also odd how the first half was significantly wetter than the second. True daily mean (average of 5-minute observations): 76.7 F (24.8 C) Max daily precip: 0.48" (12.2 mm) Max precip rate (10-min mean): 2.72"/hr (69.1 mm/hr) Max precip rate (1-min mean): 4.20"/hr (106.7 mm/hr) Max RH: 99% Min RH: 32% Max dew point: 79.3 F (26.3 C) Min dew point: 53.8 F (12.1 C) Max heat index: 107.4 F (41.9 C) Daily chart: Temp graph:

A welcome end to Autumn and start to winter (particularly the last ten days of the month), wet, cloudy and pretty mild at nights. Also Perth station for some reason didn't record a maximum on the 11th...but it did show a 3pm reading of 28.0C so I've used the same maximum at Perth Airport (the closest which recorded 29.1C...realistically it's probably closer to 28.8, 28.9 or 29.0C but it's the best we'll get). The month started stable with a front on the 4th-6th bringing good falls especially to the north of the city. Some warmth on the 10th-11th was followed by low diurnals from the 14th-17th and cloudy skies. Cold fronts on the 22nd-23rd and 27th-28th ended the month with good falls all-round the city and some pretty wintry days. Oh yeah anomalies for Jandakot can now be 1991-2020 Jandakot: High Max: 28.5C (11th) Mean Max: 22.1C (+0.0C) Low Max: 15.2C (24th) High Min: 17.5C (4th) Mean Min: 11.0C (+1.8C) Low Min: 4.4C (26th) Rainfall: 110.6mm (118.5% of average 93.3mm. May 2021 Summary Bang-on average in both temps and precip; however, the first half of the month was strikingly warm (by South West Slopes standards), making for a fairly variable month. Some mediocre rain events here and there—nothing to write home about. The max temp on the 16th @ Hunters Hill unfortunately ran afoul of the dreaded 9 AM reset; was just 4.0° C before the reset (easily the most wintry day of the month—struggled above 2° C all day). I recorded 0.7 cm of wet snow/sleet on the 15th, so my first official "snowy day" of 2021. Anomalies @ Hunters Hill (1993–2020)• Mean Maximum: 12.0° C (+0.2° C) • Mean Minimum: 5.7° C (+0.3° C) • Precipitation: 109.0 mm (110.00%)

May ended up average after all, but this time it doesn't tell the full story. The first week of the month was the coldest since 1997, followed by the only warm spell after that. After the 14th only one day managed to reach 20C (30th). The period between the 15th and 29th was actually worse than the averages would suggest. When clouds broke for a couple of hours in the afternoon, the temps rose to normal levels for a while, but most of the day was well below the high recorded that day. The month was also the wettest since 2003. Helsinki recorded 231 sunshine hours and Utö 221, so Turku had most likely something in the same fashion. Helsinki had its 2nd cloudiest May this century.
Highest high: 27.2C (13th) Highest low: 11.8C (13th) Lowest high: 6.6C (7th) Lowest low: -3.3C (2nd)
Mean temp per decade:
1st: 5.9C 2nd: 13.6C 3rd: 11.4C
Deviations from 91-10:
High: -0.3C Mean: -0.1C Low: 0.0C Precipitation: +203% (36.1mm)

May surprisingly ended up below average, even though we had a week of proper summer weather. That's the effect of the crummery weekend.
