Out of curiosity and inspired by the current shoutbox discussion, I'm interested to see the climate preferences of our family and friends, and how they compare to our dream climates. I'd imagine for some people, a particular craving or distaste for a certain type of weather seems to run in the family, while others are clear anomalies. To start things off, here are my estimations of my parents' dream climates: My dad's dream climate would be a lot like Houghton, Michigan, though I'd figure he'd like it a bit sunnier than that. Mild summers; cold snowy winters, great snowmobiling weather December through March inclusive, without too much in the way of extremes in either direction. My mom, on the other hand, likes the four seasons in their truest forms; her favorite season is autumn, but she wants a little bit of everything. She rivals my dad in terms of cold and snow foaming in winter, but at the same time she and I are like two peas in a pod in terms of our summer preferences; her dream climate reminds me of northern Iowa with a lot more winter snow. Here's my friend from high school's dream climate, dug up and digitized by him within the past few years: It's Dfb with a couple of odd quirks (the means are a bit...off, let's say), but it does have the redeeming factor of plenty of temperature variation, especially in the upward direction. Obviously I'm the outlier, with my borderline tropical/subtropical dream climate that has never recorded a temperature as cold as any of these climates' average highs Dec through Feb inclusive.

Good fresh idea for a thread. Here is my dad's dream climate. It's like a less extreme, more temperate version of mine. It's supposed to be reminiscent of SoCal but with wetter summers to prevent wildfire risk.

I prefer yours - need my months in the 80s in summer. I'd still take your dad's dream climate over my actual climate, let alone my dad's dream climate, though!

Here’s an estimate of my dad’s super unrealistic dream climate. He made an actual one which I forgot but this is very close to what it was. My mom made one too back then but now she is much more interested in heat so I don’t know what it would be. My GF’s is basically Fort Collins with cooler summers and more rain.

Here are estimates of my parents' dream climates, based on how they described them. They both like sunny weather so I'd imagine both climates would have about 3000 sunshine hours each.
Most of my family are tropical/subtropical climate lovers, so I'm an anomaly with my preference for (relatively) cold winters. My friends (at least the ones I've talked with about weather) tend to have a preference for cooler temperate climates, similar to my preferences.

My dad could never take this very seriously, he went for an oceanic climate where it pours with rain all night and is sunny by day, every day: My mum on the other hand prefers some type of subtropical climate:

Something roughly like this. I remember her saying she liked cold mornings in winter, with these mornings being considered cold in Melbourne. No days of extreme heat, but more consistent warmth in summer. And lots of summer rain so that she doesn't have to water the gardens. Consistent sunshine throughout the year.

I asked my elder sister about her ideal climate averages. Seems neither of my sisters like hot weather, or particularly cold weather.

I managed to track down my other sister! They already think I'm a bit weird I'm sure lol so no doubt they'd not be surprised me asking about their dream climate.

Made a dream climate estimate for my neighbour. He hates hot weather and loves the cold. He keeps his windows open and never turns his heater on all winter, no matter how cold it gets. My dad went to his place this morning (we had an overnight low of 1.7C) and he said it was about 3C indoors. The only reason his dream climate is not full on polar is because he likes gardening, so summers are just warm enough to maintain a garden.

My wife's climate preferences, approximated anyways It's as though you guys were meant for each other! Sadly I never asked my ex about her weather/climate preferences while we were going out, though I do remember her wearing long sleeves most of the time even on warmer days, which could be a sign of getting cold easily. She probably thought I was eccentric enough, haha.

he said it was about 3C indoors.
3C indoors is extreme. I wonder if that damages anything? With a low above freezing there won't be any frozen pipes. My wife's climate preferences, approximated anyways Is your wife single? I like the look of that weather box.

My mum would prefer Mumville as well.

I'll make a point to ask my neighbour if he's ever woken up to indoor frost or anything like that. He's the closest person I know IRL to this person from CD in terms of weather preferences, although he's nowhere near as extreme.

Tenderfrost I remember seeing his posts, lol, he is a good source of entertainment.
His recent posts are all in a dieting thread. It's not about weather but he's just as crazy there. He claims to walk 3 hours a day and eat 1500 calories, but he's not losing weight as fast as he wants. Not a small guy either, 6'3 235 at the first post (191cm 107kg). 210lb/95kg at the end of the thread. Built like a husky .
