Meteorologists to combat AI with hand-drawn weather charts ( source: Weatherzone ) Australian meteorologists will reinstate hand-drawn weather charts in 2024 to help people tell the difference between authentic human-made forecasts and those generated by artificial intelligence. A report released earlier this year by the International Weather Chart Association (IWCA) has recommended a return to hand-drawn weather charts to give human meteorologists an edge over the rising influence of artificial intelligence in operational meteorology. According to Sloof Lirpa, a Lead Intelligence Executive Reporter at the IWCA, artificial intelligence poses a “significant and growing threat to the credibility of contemporary meteorology.” Australian meteorologists will be replacing digital synoptic charts and other weather maps with hand-drawn charts from the beginning of April in 2024. You can see an example of one of the new synoptic charts below, alongside the digital version it will replace. While returning to hand-drawn charts may sacrifice some detail and accuracy in weather forecasts, it will guarantee that the information is coming from a human. “Hand-drawn weather charts were critical tool for operational meteorologists last century and as far as I know, computers can’t pick up pencils yet.” These new hand-drawn weather charts will be available on computers and mobile devices. The IWCA will also be exploring other initiatives to help human meteorologists work alongside artificial intelligence into the future, including free-standing ‘weather walls’ that use stick-on weather icons for television reports. For the past couple of days, Saharan sand has been making the atmosphere murky:
The good thing is that a front will come here this evening and clean up the atmosphere. But hey, at least this African air has brought me a nice temp of 28C/82F today.
Edit: I realized I should've posted this in the NH Spring/SH Fall thread, but I'll leave it like this

Maybe Weatherzone/BOM should spend less time on childish immaturity and redirect that energy towards saving up for a window.

Talking of drawings I found an old drawing of a tornado I made in the late 90's when I was maybe 10 years old, going through a tornado obsession phase.
In the picture is the scene of a highway, with a powerful tornado going from left to right, leaving smashed up and crashed cars in its wake. It has also picked up an entire house and several cars completely off the ground. There's also a sign on the left, indicating that drivers going westbound are about to enter the state of Kansas. So, that would place the scene of the tornado as being somewhere east of the state border, in Missouri. Based on its ability to pick up cars and even a small house, it's likely an EF5 rating tornado. The next EF5 tornado to hit Missouri was the Joplin tornado, which formed just east of the Kansas/Missouri border before going on to kill 158 people in Joplin, on 22nd May 2011.

Shame about the crap timezone Shame it's a crap boring 1-dimensional suburb at the ass end of Australia 3000 light years from anything. I'd go to Brisbane instead. Much better, more cosmopolitan, more variety in everything, and more central to everything.

Yeah to be fair when driving out I have noticed how isolated it is, nothing for hours in any direction except for a few small towns. It has been great driving out and seeing the night sky so clear though. The actual CBD is kinda shitty and boring but the suburbs are better and look nicer. I think Brisbane is probably better climate wise and more interesting, endless sunny days does take a toll after a while and everything is dry as feck here.you guys at least seem to care about the public spaces though, every coast line as public toilets/BBQs/water etc, that would be non existent in the shithole that is the UK. Jesus Christ, the size of roaches here are huge too - saw a lone American roach crawl out under my bed and the fucker was so fast and nearly the length of my hand.

WA just reinforces how big a country Australia is.... and trust me, there are lots of worse places than Perth. I've worked in both Perth and Brisbane... liked them equally. 2023/2024 has been an exceptionally dry summer in s w WA, so drought stricken. The sandy soils don't hold any moisture and therefor any Med type climate looks arid and barren in April after a long hot summer. Once the rain sets in the place does green up some, but sure as shit it ain't subtropical Brisbane looking....

Locals were saying wait til winter when it's cold and wet but I can imagine 'cold'is mid/high teens

i visited some friends in Mandurah and Perth early June a few years ago... days of gale force winds and heavy rains ( and 15c max temps ). Although I felt a bit chilly, I actually enjoyed the week ... having come south from an early dry season Darwin to a beginning of the rainy season in Perth. Down at the beach in Mandurah watching Indian Ocean 'coldies' ( westerly cold fronts ) come screaming in was very interesting weather nerd wise....
