So this town called Buxton has had thunder 3 or 4 times this May already, and we have had none. Yet when I lived around there, we never had thunder in May even once. Buxton must be burned down to the ground.

Fark, kill maself. We definitely deserve a hot summer: Man what a great graph, I've been looking for one of those. Now, the long country of Sweden has been the second coldest country overall, let's combine that fact with this intra-Sweden anomaly map (of this year so far) and we can safely say that Umeå and my specific part of Sweden has been pretty much the cold spot of the world the last half year. In fact, Umeå and my region have been the coldest in the country during last fall winter and spring, three seasons in a row of being the coldest in the country and pretty much the whole world. Fall, winter and spring anomaly maps:

Pakistan Temperatures Cross 52 C In Heatwave: ( source Reuters ) MOHENJO DARO, Pakistan, May 27 (Reuters) - Temperatures rose above 52 degrees Celsius (125.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in Pakistan’s southern province of Sindh, the highest reading of the summer and close to the country’s record high amid an ongoing heatwave, the met office said on Monday. Extreme temperatures throughout Asia over the past month were made worse most likely as a result of human-driven climate change, a team of international scientists have said. In Mohenjo Daro, a town in Sindh known for archaeological sites that date back to the Indus Valley Civilization built in 2500 BC, temperatures rose as high as 52.2 C (126 F) over the last 24 hours, a senior official of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Shahid Abbas told Reuters. The reading is the highest of the summer so far, and approached the town's and country's record highs of 53.5 C (128.3 F) and 54 C (129.2 F) respectively. Mohenjo Daro is a small town that experiences extremely hot summers and mild winters, and low rainfall, but its limited markets, including bakeries, tea shops, mechanics, electronic repair shops, and fruit and vegetable sellers, are usually bustling with customers. But with the current heatwave, shops are seeing almost no footfall. "The customers are not coming to the restaurant because of extreme heat. I sit idle at the restaurant with these tables and chairs and without any customers," Wajid Ali, 32, who owns a tea stall in the town. "I take baths several times a day which gives me a little relief. Also there is no power. The heat has made us very uneasy." Close to Ali's shop is an electronic repairs shop run by Abdul Khaliq, 30, who was sat working with the shop's shutter half down to shield him from the sun. Khaliq also complained about the heat affecting business. Local doctor Mushtaq Ahmed added that the locals have adjusted to living in the extreme weather conditions and prefer staying indoors or near water. “Pakistan is the fifth most vulnerable country to the impact of climate change. We have witnessed above normal rains, floods,” Rubina Khursheed Alam, the prime minister’s coordinator on climate, said at a news conference on Friday adding that the government is running awareness campaigns due to the heatwaves. The highest temperature recorded in Pakistan was in 2017 when temperatures rose to 54 C (129.2 F) in the city of Turbat, located in the Southwestern province of Balochistan. This was the second hottest in Asia and fourth highest in the world, said Sardar Sarfaraz, Chief Meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department The heatwave will subside in Mohenjo Daro and surrounding areas, but another spell is expected to hit other areas in Sindh, including the capital, Karachi - Pakistan's largest city.

The FMI website has experienced some severe glitches in the forecast. First it forecasted -155C for Jyväskylä:
(Still too warm for Shalop)
... and then the forecast had some severe shrieking sixties wind for Sodankylä, perfect whöling weather with 278 m/s wind:
Rediculous.

B87 was this guy on netweather trying to call you a "stupid prat"? Not great at anagrams myself, but if so that's rather rude of him! And boteving the Glasgow averages in the process. Today's average is 17.7c in Glasgow and 21.6c in London. 17.7c would be a cool May, so would clearly be noticeable compared to an average June.

RE: sunshine hours at Weston Park; since April 2013 the sunshine hours data has been "provisional" garbage, meaning that 2013-2020 has seen a substantial decrease in sunshine hours, due to them not uploading the adjusted numbers. Ricluss.

So we had our first warm spell of 2024. Here's why the warm weather sucks:
Everything smells much stronger Sweat - tons of sweat when exercising Ice in my drink melts really fast, so I have to keep replenishing it People are more tetchy and quick tempered (not me though as I am a cool cat) The brightness of the sun triggers migraines Sleep, so hard to get good sleep Saps the energy straight out of you Everything you touch is hot Even the water coming from the cold tap is warm
But cooler weather is coming tomorrow, and I can't wait.

Is this satire? No, the only people I've seen today have actually been moaning about it being too hot. Not unusual, because we aren't used to it really, with a usually cool summer. As for me it doesn't make me tetchy, I just pour a cold one and sit naked (or close to it) and chill out. Life's too short to get quick tempered.

The late warm spell (it ends today) has felt unusually oppressive, whatever the temps say (highs were from 27-31°C in England). This is despite much cloud often being present. Last year's "warmest June on record" didn't even feel as hot. People have been saying about how much worse this year has felt. Maybe because it's followed a very cool first half of June? But I also recorded a higher indoor temperature this year than last year, despite shorter duration and intensity of heat, on paper. One thing was quite obvious, which was the lack of wind. The wind was basically 0mph all week of the hot spell. It was totally stagnant and stuffy. Not even a whiff of breeze.

Cold front came through and it was a totally dry cold-front, with no rain and barely even any cloud. So June is the first proper dry month in a while, and unless the forecast goes truly wrong, should remain below 30mm rain, meaning this year including all the others since I've lived here meets the threshold of "Csb". That doesn't make the climate Csb of course, as that would require the driest months over the whole time to average less than 30mm.
