a-, too fucking dry man! But I gotta love those temperatures, and with the low humidity it seems amazing. Pretty close to Jacarandopolis, dont you think I assume the real-feel would be similar except having an umbrella in Whyalla is a waste of time

Following on from the 1960 event, it appears Adelaide and Melbourne didn't get that epic heat. Adelaide still did nicely at 41.8°C at the newly reborn West Terrace site whereas Melbourne got 3 days in the mid-high 30s. Jan 1960 was a good month overall though with the high temps not dipping below 20.7°C in Melbourne which was exceptional for the time. Melbourne Jan 1960Adelaide Jan 1960

Re the Port Augusta discussion, they reached 45.9C today while Whyalla only managed 36.0C We didn't get anywhere near the 43C forecast thanks to overcast cloud, and the peak 850 temps (up to 30C) will pass through overnight. Renmark Airport maded 39.7C, not bad considering it's been overcast mid-level junk all day. Some epic temps in the north of SA today. There is also a 46.8C reading at Smithville, NSW, which is actually a new station right on the SA border near Tibooburra.

this illustrates perfectly why i'm obsessed with pötsönvaara. temperatures are far above average, yet the temperature has barely gone above 0C for a month, and there has been ample snowfall. even in lapland there are not that many places that can stay below freezing for so long in a mild winter set-up.

Sure. And such amount of snow keep the lows cooler as well.
The humidity sensor seems to be broken.
edit: Ilomantsi Pötsönvaara is the coldest location in Central Finland. It is colder than Mekrijärvi. It is also colder than Lieksa Lampela. Pötsönvaara is always colder. It is the coldest location in Central Finland.

Why and how the actual fuck is Finland, even in the interior, more stable than fucking buoys these last few months?

If there is a huge area of High pressure it can be very stable in the winter even over a piece of land. Like in East Asia. It's much more stable than Eastern North America despite being colder and more continental

pretty cool to compare the wind-speed and temperature graphs for tarfala (1150m) and nikkaluokta (470m) 20km apart the last hours.
