Pretty ideal September weather today, high/low of 81/70 under mostly cloudy skies and dewpoints around 60. Nicely comfortable. 85+ tomorrow, easterly flow with scattered storms late this week, and back to a warm/dry pattern after that.

A strong cold front caused a well defined line of storms to erupt today: You can see the central Canadian dehumidifier getting to work.

Only made it to 76 (24 c) today, coolest high since June.
This snapped the streak of 25 c highs at 78, the 2nd longest such streak ever.

Pretty sick diurnals this month.

Mount Washington Observatory forecasts tornado on Wednesday, can't be for the summit must be for valleys. wonder if it's even possible for a tornado to hit the summit? alex992Rain shower chances will increase overnight, with showers and thunderstorms likely on Wednesday as low pressure over Quebec then swings a cold front through the region. A warm and moist air mass in place along with strong winds aloft, will aid in the development of thunderstorms during the afternoon, with the front acting as an additional lifting mechanism. Supercell type severe thunderstorms are possible ahead of the front with damaging wind gusts, hail, and even a slight chance for isolated tornadoes, with additional strong to severe storms likely along the front itself. Some lingering rain showers and drizzle will then be likely heading into Wednesday night as the front clears the coast, and weak high pressure begins to build back in.from a Mount Washington observatory social media post. note they didn't mention New Hampshire as an example alex992Mountain tops can and do get tornadoes. They are less common but it is a huge misconception that they cannot. Pikes Peak is one where multiple documentation (ie, video/obs) has occurred but have seen vid/obs of them in mountains/hills of WY, NC, CA, AK, AR, TN, Peru, & Canada.
unsurprised the colorado rockies are more prone since it gets so frequent severe thunderstorms. California and Alaska!

Didn't really have any issues with T.S. Nicholas in Alexandria. Heaviest rainfall trained to my south. More than 10 inches of rain in one town! I got 3.70" (had more than that from thunderstorms Labor Day weekend). Rain yesterday during the day was mostly light/moderate but became heavier after dark. Temps have been mostly in the 70's the past few days.

I've heard of the tornadoes in mountains in Colorado and Wyoming before....haven't heard of the NC and TN ones but that doesn't surprise me. Any severe weather in Northern NH last night?

We've got our first frost advisory in effect right now! Supposed to go right around freezing tonight. Our lowest temperature of the season so far is 0.7C so we'll probably end up beating that.

We haven't had rain in about two weeks. Even then it was only about a half inch (~12 mm). We've gotten about 2" (50 mm) of rain since mid-July, in comparison to a normal of about 6" (150 mm).
We are now in the abnormally dry category according to the US drought monitor.

After yesterdayโs 93 (34 c), it only got to 67 (19 c) today.
It was overcast all morning and didnโt break 60 until 1 PM when the sun came out. Actually felt like fall for the first time.
