The problem is FMI counts every second as a basic unit for the sunshine duration. Applies the same even if I choose a 10-minute or 1-hour time interval. It won't be accurate unless I'm collecting 40,320(28 days)~44,640(31 days) quantities of data to summarize each month's sunshine hours. They should add a feature of hourly basis information.
It's the closest you will get.
Before they add any additional features, make Turku Artukainen's sunshine stats available for download at all.

Finally a wet month this year. Hope the winter months are snowier than last winter here. I would be very surprised if this coming winter is as dry as 20-21 was. Boring...but at least it was decently wet as well.

Almost exactly normal temperature-wise (-0.1ยบF), and roughly double normal rainfall

August was one of the worst I can ever remember in the UK, I know I wanted it cooler than Malta but this was taking the piss. There were no warm/hot days at all, sunshine was below average & rainfall here was above average, when the rest of the SE was average or below. Most of the rain fell within the first week, with only very light showers or drizzle falling from the often cloudy sky during the rest of the month. I am now using data from my PWS in my location which is 5 miles inland (8 miles from Portsmouth & 7 miles from Thorney Island) & 79m asl. Have also included weather boxes from my three nearest Met Office stations, Thorney Island, Gosport Fleetlands & Southampton Oceanography Centre (Hayling Island is closest, but is a manual station, so no data available). Stats from my PWS Av. Max 20.8C (-0.9C)* Av. August was much hotter than the unseasonably wet and cool July. It was fairly dry except for two days of long-lasting thunderstorms. There were many other days with severe thunderstorm risk, but we ended up either avoiding them completely or dodging the worst. Toronto Pearson Airport: High of 28.6C is 3.1C above normal. Low of 17.4C is 1.4C above normal. Precip of 58.0mm is 72% of normal.

Seasonal month temperature-wise, slightly wetter than normal. Av. Max 25,2C (-0,2C) Av. Also Wouldnโt think Winnipeg is that big there would be such a difference with the lows.

Average August conditions
Mean maximum: 20.2ยฐC | Average high: 15.0ยฐC | Daily mean: 10.8ยฐC | Average low: 6.5ยฐC | Mean minimum: 0.8ยฐC
Average precipitation: 42.1mm | Average precipitation days (>0.2mm): 16.0 | Average relative humidity: 75% | Mean monthly sunshine hours: 167.4
Sunshine hours and temperatures were above average, while rainfall was near average. Nothing really unusual or notable occurred (apart from above average sunshine, which seems to be rare these days).

Yeah, when looking at the hourly observations, if it says 60 at 13.00, that means that there was 60 seconds of sunshine that particular minute. I.e. minute readings but with 1h intervals. This should definitely not be used to calculate actual sunshine.

jgtheone the fact that your August was sunnier than March is almost incomprehensible. That March was utterly cursed. I'm still 99% sure the government was seeding clouds that month. So many 'partly cloudy' days ended up being overcast.

It's close enough. The difference seems to be a few hours either way a month, based on the few examples I looked up.

August 2021 Summary, Sheffield This month completely redefines the term "boregust", making any other use of the term relatively meaningless. A summer month with less than 100 hours of sun? Barely any rain? Nothing exceeding 22ยฐC? Yep, we got it right here. Even with my low expectations for summer months these days, I was taken by sheer surprise by how low that "max" temperature really is - the lowest in decades upon decades. We would typically see the max temp reach 28ยฐC even in a mediocre August. The sheer boringness of the weather patterns this month was truly beyond any rational comprehension. Even the high pressure period at the end of the month was unremittingly overcast, with drizzle at times. The more unsettled periods also couldn't muster any more than a tedious constant drizzle, let alone anything remotely convective. It was quite honestly the most boring month in my 15 years of weather records. It was the second dullest August on record, with barely more than 50% of the average sunshine hours. That wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the fact that Sheffield had its cloudiest summer on record just last year, for God's sake. After a not-so-bad June/July, it was just typical of the modern era that August could be this disgustingly, horrifically mundane and record breakingly dull and cool. The climate of the UK continues to surprise me year after year with how dreadful the summers are becoming. Perhaps the most incredible thing about this month was that fucking Iceland managed to totally cream the vast majority of the UK for maximum temperatures, exceeding 28ยฐC on multiple days. That there should say it all.

This should definitely not be used to calculate actual sunshine. Exactly that's the point. For instance, the gap between actual and estimated numbers would be bigger when the sensor detected full light of sun every 59 minutes at x:00 to x:59 yet clouds appear to cover the sun at x:59 to x:00 and vice versa. Imagine such coincidence happens more often.

Pretty poor August, although a lot of places in Sweden and Europe had it worse. 0.5'C below average, and about 150% precipitation, but sunshine was average if not slightly above average at least. 91-20 for reference, and 11-20 max/min:

Quite consistent month there in the temperatures. I didnโt realize that Wales stays pretty mild in summer. I.e no temperature spikes.

It's a mild climate, but there's nothing normal about the temperature spikes last month, or lack of them. Most years we'll get some days in the high 20's or early 30's. 23.4C as a record high for the month constitutes historical levels of gayness.
