Much too wet and snowy even for me, but it's certainly a thrilling climateโmake no mistake.

I give it a C. Has a decent winter with potential for lot of snow, but summer seems nonexistent. If summer were 10 F warmer, it would get a B.

D-. Summer is too cool, most of the year is too wet and there's little to no temperature variability. But winters aren't too bad and it does seem somewhat livable.

Really. Love me the Cfb/Et weather all year for good thin lake ice.

Depends on how snowy the winters are.
Shit climate either way but an exceptionally snowy winter could be a silver lining.

In fact the climate of this part of Tasmania is so atrocious, it deserves a bit of a deeper look at the stats and data. From the BOM's own website, they claim the conditions are often so bad the wind, rain and snow are sometimes measured incorrectly and produces false readings at the AWS. Here are the stats from the Climate Data Online site. Mount Read Max Temps, averages and extremes. Mount Read Min Temps, averages and extremes. Mount Read Rainfall, averages and extremes. I've randomly picked 2010 to show the yearly recordings and perhaps the snowy conditions in the depths of winter. I daresay AA would be better qualified than me to extrapolate snowfall, and/or snowpack. My initial thoughts are that due to the windy conditions and changeable weather in Western Tassie, that there wouldn't be a 'snowpack' as such at only 1100m altitude. Snow can and does fall in any month of the year in the Western Tiers of Tasmania. I walked the Cradle Mountain Track in late Dec 2014, the altitude of Dove Lake is 939m asl and the max temp was 8c and raining. I deffinately wasn't dressed for it and yep, suffered somewhat. The temp 40klm away at Mount Read 200m higher up was 4.6c on the same day. Its tough beautiful country ! 2010 Mount Read Max temps 2010 Mount Read Min temps 2010 Mount Read rainfall

Depends on how snowy the winters are. Shit climate either way but an exceptionally snowy winter could be a silver lining. I believe its winters are rather snowy, although not like Midwest US level (so to say). Heck, the place is known to get snow in summer as well. Australia should have a system that records snowfall. Perhaps we do? But I don't think it's measured at BOM.
