Wow first freeze of the winter happening at 1 pm. That's gotta be unusual. We might get some snow mixing in with the rain tomorrow morning here in Chapel Hill, NC, but that's about all that's forecasted for us. Virginia is supposed to get more significant snow. We wound up getting a dusting of snow yesterday morning that lasted for a couple hours until the sun came out. It was more than I was expecting, so I'm happy.

Sunshine hours are in! December had 97.6 hours, for a total of 2659.7 for the year, although that's a bit of an undercount since there's a week of data missing in October. The all-time record is 2686 in 2011, so with those missing hours we're likely very close to that or maybe even exceeded it.
2021 was also the second driest year in Saskatoon's recorded history, with 180.7mm of precipitation. 2001 still remains the driest, with 159.7mm.

Saw diamond dust for the first time tonight in Big Sky. Temps have been quite cold, mostly in the 6-8 f (~-13 c) range at the base.
Fort Collins is getting heavy snow now, should be a good couple inches.

I don't mind a week or so of a cold snap, but this one is starting to feel endless LOL. Personally I'd be fine if the temperature mostly stayed above -10C in the winter.

Despite the fact that it's -36C this early afternoon, it's fully cloudy. Quite unusual. Normally it's bright and sunny at these temperatures.

First accumulating snowfall (beyond a coating) of the winter for my area tonight into tomorrow. Looks like South Jersey is in the jackpot zone again for the second time this week.

A statement from NWS Melbourne:
Public Information Statement National Weather Service Melbourne FL 200 PM EST Thu Jan 6 2022
...2021 Joined the Previous 6 Years as Being Among the Warmest on Record Across East Central Florida...
There still remains no end in sight to the dominant pattern of above normal warmth that has largely prevailed across the area since 2015. While colder than normal periods have certainly occurred through the past several years, they have been more of the exception than the rule. Average temperatures for 2021 joined the past 6 years, ranking within the top ten warmest years on record for many sites across the region, many of which have ranked within the top 5 warmest. Rainfall amounts for 2021 were more of a mixed bag, especially due to more variable rainfall totals during the summer and early Fall from daily scattered showers and storms, and localized heavy rainfall from this activity. A majority of the primary climate stations had end of year rainfall totals that were below normal, with Melbourne, Vero Beach and Stuart each seeing larger deficits that fell between 10 to 15 inches below normal for the year.
