I'd hate to know what "oppressive night" and "unusually humid" means for Brisbane The hell? Such descriptions are a first from BOM! They can might as well add "disturbing" and "brutal" and add an 18+ rating. Lmao! Oppressive night has been used down here in Melbourne quite a few times. Usually when the forecast minimum is 26C+. Never seen "unusually humid" though.

Will probably be the coldest night of the year with temperatures falling below -17C.

Our winter weather advisory got upgraded to a winter storm warning. The models have been showing a dry slot in western Oklahoma, so that region just has a winter weather advisory.
Here are the precipitation predictions from the NAM. It will be a mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow, so any model snowfall estimates will likely be inaccurate.

ASHLEIGH LANGE, 01 FEB 2022, 11:09 AM ACST Heaviest rainfall in 120 years in the Kimberley ( source: Weatherzone ) Parts of the Kimberley have been lashed with the heaviest rainfall in 120 years, with the multi-day deluge leaving towns, roads, and railways underwater. Businesses and residents across northern WA can expect heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and damaging winds to continue as the monsoon trough and a low-pressure system deepen in the region. The map below shows a deep low-pressure system over the Kimberley embedded within the monsoon trough, which is slowly moving southwest. Image: Visible satellite image at 11:10am EDT on Tuesday, February 1, showing thick cloud over northern WA. Broome Airport has recorded 326mm of rain since 9am Monday morning, with 48-hour totals reaching a 120-year high of 563mm. In just two days, Broome airport received more rain than during the whole of 2021. To the east of Broome, Fitzroy crossing saw daily rainfall totals of 128mm to 9am Monday morning. Koolan Island also clocked a 102km/h damaging wind gust on Monday morning. Damaging winds will continue to affect parts of the Kimberley, Pilbara and the northern interior on Tuesday, with gusts of 100km/h possible. The strongest winds are likely over the southwest Kimberley, where locally destructive gusts above 125 km/h are possible. Heavy rainfall will also linger in these regions near the low-pressure system on Tuesday and early Wednesday. Daily rainfall totals of 100 to 200 mm are likely, with isolated falls in excess of 250mm. The rainfall focus will shift inland from Wednesday, as the low moves east briefly. Coastal locations such as Broome will notice a significant easing in the rain as this happens. The low is expected to move off the Pilbara coast on Thursday night into Friday, with rainfall expected to ease slightly as it moves away from the area. As the low moves off the northwest coast, there is a low chance at this stage of it developing into a tropical cyclone. However, at this stage, the low is expected to move towards the west and away from the Australian mainland after it moves offshore.

They are tailoring the advise to the particular audience they're aiming at. For example Darwin residents would not think the forecast out of the ordinary and most residents are fully acclimatised to such conditions. The unacclimatised, elderly etc, on the other hand, might suffer somewhat in those conditions where its out of the norm and not commonly experienced.

That's why Brisbane rarely gets "humid" in its weather description, even though its summers are pretty humid almost everyday. But when it's exceptionally muggy (like these days), they would use descriptions such as "humid" and "oppressive". Oh and Melbourne gets the "humid" description when it's Sydney-level humid. I personally like Accuweather's weather descriptions. They're so specific and unique. For instance, Sydney's weather tomorrow reads out like this: "Pleasant with clouds and sunshine; a refreshing breeze in the afternoon" That said, Accuweather is not really that accurate and reliable, at least not for Australia.

Quite cold this morning, with -11 F (-23.9 C) and a -27 F (-32.8 C) wind chill and sunny skies, slight chance it stays below 0 F (-17.8 C) today but it likely won't, with a predicted high of 1 F (-17.2 C).
Cold will persist through the end of the workweek, with a big warm up coming this weekend and early next week (with the exception of Sunday, which looks cold), might even hit 40 F (4.4 C) on Tuesday (predicted high is 39 F / 3.9 C for that day).

2 weeks without a freeze here, and the lowest temperature in the forecast is 3C. Even extended forecasts have lows of 5-6C.
Could be a very mild February.

We have about an inch of snow on the ground, with more on the way. It changed over to sleet for a while, so I got scared the rest of the storm would be sleet, but now it's back to a nice snowfall.

Interesting weather today with a high diurnal range and much milder temperatures than we've been having. High/low was 44 F/12 F (7 C/-11 C). It was up to 18 F/-8 C at 7AM when I went out and it felt mild compared to the recent subzero mornings.
Tonight is not expected to even drop below freezing. Next couple of days look messy with rain tomorrow transitioning to an icy mix on Friday.

Very cold today, high was 15 (-9 c) at midnight and it hovered between 10-12 f most of the day (-11 to -12 c).
Ended up getting 7.8โ of snow today for a storm total of 9.0โ (23 cm). Very nice showing that brings us to average for the season.
Supposed to be very cold tonight and tomorrow before returning to seasonable conditions.

Bureau of Meteorology Very high temperatures have returned to Perth and western WA as hot winds from the desert once again make their way to the coast, leading to a string of hot, dry days. On Wednesday, Geraldton reached 44.6 ยฐC and into the mid-to-high 30s for numerous other locations across western WA. This is the 15th time Geraldton has exceeded 40 ยฐC this summer. Low to severe heatwave conditions are forecast as maximum temperatures climb into the high 30s to low 40s. Perth is not expected to dip below a maximum of 30 ยฐC until Sunday. Relatively dry east to north-east winds will drive elevated fire dangers over area with Severe to Extreme Fire Dangers inland to the north and east of Perth. 39c in Albany ? Outstanding heat for one of the coolest climates in WA ! Almost an Aussie version of Eureka, CA.

Yesterday had a high/low of 42/31 with overcast. Finally getting milder, perfect weather for melting this snowpack. Already up to 45 at 7AM with light rain About 1.5โ of rain is expected tonight into tomorrow. Also, inland areas could get up to 0.25โ of ice. Here, ice accretions are likely to be less than 0.10โ, but still enough to cause issues potentially.

Bitterly cold this morning here, temp is -26 F (-32.2 C) right now and dead calm, sunrise looking beautiful today. Very cold this afternoon as well, with a high of only -3 F (-19.4 C) predicted.
Could potentially get some snow tonight, no accumulation forecast though. Hope we get a little something so the snowpack gets refreshed a bit.

ice storm coming up from the Northeast. odd because it's above freezing and raining, thought the ground would stay warm. but there's a big inversion from it being cold before and it's going to get bigger. precipitation map on the top right. using central Massachusetts because they're getting a bigger ice storm. starting as rain and then

Today's high was 82.2 ยฐF (27.9 ยฐC) at my PWS, the first 80 ยฐF temp since January 10th. This ends the 23-day long streak of consecutive days with max temps below 80 ยฐF, the longest such period since 2014. Today felt great since I had been craving a bit more warmth recently.
