Pretty warm and humid in Auckland (at least for their standards). Is it normal for Auckland to be this warm at nights? Christ.

Looks like today will be the first day since December 31st to remain above freezing. Rain tonight changing to a wintry mix and tomorrow night will be back in the freezer with a forecast low of 14 F/-10 C. After tomorrow, it's expected to stay below freezing all weekend.

Got to just 16 (-9 c) today after a frigid -9 (-23 c) low. Last real cold day though, warming back up to seasonal temps this weekend.
Walked for over an hour both today and yesterday in very cold temps, not badβespecially todayβbut I wouldnβt want this to be an every day occurrence.

Freezing rain most of the day but now it's snowing out. Decent glaze of ice on trees, powerlines, etc. High of 39 F/4 C was at midnight. Forecast low of 15 F/-9 C tonight.

We wound up with a total of 5.5" (14 cm) of snow from the storm. It started snowing Wednesday afternoon. There was a lull Wednesday night into Thursday, and it snowed again most of the day on Thursday. We got about 4" (10 cm) from the Wednesday snow, and 1.5" (4 cm) from the Thursday snow. All in all, it was a successful storm. It was only sleet for a couple hours; the rest was snow. Thursday was brutally cold, with temperatures around 15Β°F (-9Β°C) most of the day, and windchills around 0Β°F (-18Β°C). I did go sledding with some friends, tho. Today it warmed up close to freezing with bright sunshine, so there was a fair amount of melting. We lost a majority of the depth of the snowpack, but the ground is still 99% covered. One downside of living at 35Β°N is that even when we get a good snow, it doesn't last long. We'll likely lose the rest of our snow cover over the weekend.

Depends on the local sea breezes in Town...the last time the Airport exceeded 40c ( 2013 ) the Town reached 38c. Although in Nov 2016 the Town recorded 39.0c and the Airport 38.8c on the same day.

Yep the albany town station is basically on the water. A chance that it may have not even broken 40C if the seabreeze was strong enough.
Also 42.5C in Perth, 44.1C at the airpirt. Rhis has been a summer to remember for sure!

We had our first thunderstorm of the year yesterday. Pretty good one too, with quite a few loud cracks of thunder and over 60 mm of rain. And Christchurch actually managed to break 30 C this week! I was starting to think this would be another summer with no 30+ C days. But yesterday they had a 13.7 C high (!!!) with over 20 mm of rain:

Been mild the past two nights under southerly flow on the back side of ridging (a change from the pattern that's prevailed the past month), and dew points have reached 50Β°F this afternoon for the first time since exactly a month ago (January 5th).

Wet weather in Latvia, some weather stations, like PΔvilosta in western Latvia, have almost reached the monthly amount and there are still 21 days in this month. Rain and sleet in western Latvia, while it has been snowing heavily in the East. Snow cover in Latvia this morning:

Heavy rainfall yesterday: first a cold front moved through with long lasting rain, and behind the front thunderstorm showers with hail occurred, the first ones this year. Aachen received 30 mm. The 430 mm near Hamburg surely is an error (the 150 mm to the east of me probably too)
