A general thread for all things humidity/dew point-related. What are the highest/lowest dew points your area gets over the course of the year? Do you get a particularly humid or dry season? What's your preference? Humidity/dew points aren't a major issue here and aren't usually quoted in forecasts so I don't have much of a feel for what the dew point is like I do with temperature, but we're heading towards our dampest time of the year now, roughly from November to January. It can rain 5 mm in a day and the pavements might still be wet two or three days later, and most days I have to have the dehumidifier running at home in the mornings/evenings. The worst month ever that I can see for average RH was November 2011: 97% averaged over a whole month, and look at all those days with 100% humidity! en.tutiempo.net/climate/11-2011/ws-33440.htmlI prefer a lower RH because it's such a novelty here and because it means clear skies. Spring's our driest time of year here, and our lowest RH and lowest DPs this year happened in March: air temp 14.1C/DP -7.7C, so an RH of 21%. In summer it's rarely warm enough for humidity to be a problem though, our highest DP all year as far as I can tell was 18.8C with an air temp of 22.4C, so only 80%.

Parts of inland SE Aus and the Nullabour plain can have extremely low humidity especially in spring as seen here:

I can't imagine what 1% humidity feels like at all, does your skin dry out/do you have to drink a lot more water?

I can't imagine what 1% humidity feels like at all, does your skin dry out/do you have to drink a lot more water? It doesn't feel any more unique than say 10% humidity at the same temp. The air just feels "lightweight" and it feels slightly cooler than the concurrent temp. You'll tend to get dry lips. And static electricity..... lots and lots of static electricity! You rapidly develop a phobia of anything metal...

Here we usually have very high dewpoints during the summer, especially right on the coast. My highest dewpoint this year was 29.3C, though the Met Office stations at Msida, Xaghra & Selmun all had dewpoints as high as 30C or 31C. Not pleasant.
When we get a SW'ly wind during the summer it draws up hot but drier air from Africa & because of living on the NE coast it has to travel across Malta before it gets to me, so in those set ups I can have very low humidity/dewpoints. My lowest this year was 2.3C in the afternoon when it hit 41.1C in June. When it is like that it feels like a hairdryer is blowing in your face.

I don't believe high humidity is colder at low temperatures. Fog is always going to be colder, but I think normal 0'C 100% RH is going to feel warmer than 0'C 10% RH.
I think someone should test this. Should be fairly simple with the right equipment. Just have two adjacent rooms at the same low temperature, but one with 100% or close to 100% RH, with the other at 10% RH, then have people try them both.

I imagine the pavement was damp for the entire month of November 2011. I presume it was also a very gloomy month. Kind of difficult to get long stretches of such weather here, but it happens once in a while (more like a week or so, not an entire month). Ballpark, I would say the highest dewpoint we typically get is around 75-77 F/24-25 C during the summer. I prefer dryer dewpoints during the summer.

Parched hands are making a fierce comeback. Hadn't had the problem since I moved from Nice as we don't get very low dew points here, with mild temps and humidity always near 100%. Well, not today, with dews around -12ยฐC, wind and RH below 40%.
