It's 33C and completely overcast here this evening. What a weird combination!

Finally had a “thunderstorm” today…really a downpour with a few thunder rumbles but still better than nothing.
The airport didn’t record any precipitation but it poured for a good 30 minutes where I am. Another brief shower around midnight did bring 0.04” (1 mm) to the airport though.
The weather in Shitchester is already far more interesting this summer and at least worth following. Heat is a novelty, storms will happen, and there can be big differences in humidity that are interesting. Not the 83-95 f and mostly sunny infinity loop back home.

Probably just a hot run, but these temps are getting into the reliable timeframe now, which is totally unprecedented. 42°C? And that's not even in the South East!

MTD avg maximums are more than 2C below in Cooma. Looks pretty chilly there!

NWS Norman is pulling no punches with regard to the heat forecast for early next week. 110°F (43°C) is quite unusual across most of central Oklahoma in summer, tho' it does happen once every several years in the southwest portion of the state near Lawton and Altus. [/div]
Just for fun, here are the GFS surface temps at 129 hours out. They're likely overestimated by at least 10°F (6°C), but it's still interesting to see model temps that hot inside of fantasy range.

There's now a 40°C over Sheffield on the GFS 18z but I can't help but think "yeah right" tbh. It's just so far out there. Anything could fuck it up anyway, and it could downgrade most likely a bit.

BBC now showing 38C here. I think that’s probably what we’ll reach realistically. But there’s probably a 20% chance we exceed 40C (and the GFS has trended hotter if anything).

It's 33C and completely overcast here this evening. What a weird combination! Even here when it's fully overcast it's rarely above about 29-30C! Yeah, definitely unusual. We often get clouds at hotter temperature but they're larger, convective, stormy looking clouds. That evening was just straight grey overcast, looked like it could've been a 20C day. First time I think I've seen that.

A red extreme heat alert has now been issued for much of England for Monday & Tuesday. London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham & Nottingham are some of the major cities affected (that’s tens of millions of people already).
The Met Office are also saying there’s now a 50% chance of 40C being exceeded, up from 20% only a couple of days ago. There is now also an 80% chance of the all-time record falling.
Things have accelerated pretty quickly.

Let's hope it's not a fizzer like last June here, when every model predicted temps in excess of 40°C until the day prior to the event, while it actually stalled at around 37°C.

Let's hope it's not a fizzer like last June here, when every model predicted temps in excess of 40°C until the day prior to the event, while it actually stalled at around 37°C. Some GFS runs and ECM have trended to bringing the cold front through quicker on Tuesday for the UK, which if it keeps happening over the next 96 hours could see that day being much cooler, but I hope that doesn't happen as I want to see some records smashed.
