Satellite imagery showing how dry the UK has been this summer compared to last: I was actually gonna post similar pics, already had them screenshotted. In other news Målilla managed to hit an impressive 37.2'C today. 0.8'C off the record but impressive none the less. That record was also set in the 40's and I believe this was the hottest day in almost 80 years in Sweden.

Satellite imagery showing how dry the UK has been this summer compared to last: The summer of 2021 was the cloudiest on record and fairly wet, so this showing 2 extremes.

Brisbane Colder Than Melbourne And Sydney On Friday ( source: Weatherzone ) It's not often in winter that Brisbane has a colder maximum temperature than Sydney, let alone a colder max than Melbourne, but that's what happened this Friday. The maximums won't be official until 9 am Saturday, but as things stand late on Friday afternoon as we write this story: Melbourne had a maximum of 19°C at 1:43 pm. This means it has been the warmest day of winter 2022 to date, beating the 17.7°C on June 20. Sydney had a maximum of 17.7°C at 11 am. And Brisbane peaked at just 17.3°C at 2:57 pm. What's going on? Why the upside-down temps? The chart below tells you most of what you need to know by way of visual explanation. Onshore winds are funnelling cool, moist Tasman Sea air onto the coast of NSW and southern Qld. Heavy showers are also hanging around southeast Qld due to that low situated near Fraser Island. Both of these factors are keeping temps down. Meanwhile, that same airflow – circulating anticlockwise around the high pressure system centred in the southern Tasman – has pushed slightly warmer inland air towards Melbourne. It's a bit like in summer when northerlies bring the hottest weather to Melbourne, and indeed, the city has had northerly winds all day today. The weekend ahead? The pecking order of temperatures should return more or less to normal over the weekend. Melbourne is expecting tops of 15°C and 18°C with showers developing Saturday but clearing Sunday. Sydney can expect tops around 18°C on both days with a few showers sticking around, likely a little more persistent on Saturday than Sunday. Brisbane is heading for top temps of 21°C and 22°C with a general clearing trend. Enjoy your weekend.

Stratiform rain probably ruining the potential for severe storms tonight. As I said, a few rumbles of thunder, light rain, and voilà. And here we go for another week of bone dry conditions. Lol, 51C/124F humidex / 50C/122F heat index in this Sardinian locale today (35.8/27.9°C dp - 96/82°F for US posters). Impressively muggy, severe humidity yields similarly high HIs and humidexes: www.infoclimat.fr/observations-meteo/temps-reel/capo-bellavista/16550.html

Some light rain today delivering a grand total of 0.5mm.
Also a high of 17C, making it the coolest day since early June. Terrible.

Weeklong heatwave coming to the PNW. Looks like most locales west of the mountains will see high temps roughly hover between 30c(86f) and 36c(97f) from Monday thru Friday.
East of the mountains in the valleys (Thompson/Okanagan (BC) and eastern Washington), temps likely between 36c(97f) and 42c(108f) this upcoming week.
