overnight backpacking trip last saturday to sunday to Vogelsang in Yosemite. long post but there was a lot in that trip beginning of the trail was fairly dull. forest less lush and more montoonus than yesterday. Midday sun is harsh in the Sierra, that didn't help. Day before there were clouds which helped. Lyell Canyon (Dana Fork of the Tuolumne River) in Yosemite long flat trail that followed the river, sometimes with views. River was cold but not very cold since it was kinda shallow, felt refreshing to go in. Then a steep climb to near treeline to about 10,000 feet (was at 8500 feet before). clouded over, kinda bleak looking windy too not the prettiest looking spot but a bit dramatic. grass was turning brown, a few weeks ago it would have been all green got to my campsite around 7 pm and then did a short walk around. nice light good sunset could make out the top of Half Dome (I was acutally above it) wildfire to the southwest added some haze in that direction but otherwise clear. only smelled smoke for a few hours in the afternoon but wasn't strong. my campsite the next morning, designated backpacker campsites not too crowded left at 6 am to go up Vogelsong peak nice early morning glow over the other side of the Vogelsong Pass, decided to descend it before going up the peak Sierra forest is nice in the early morning nice enough lake that was pleasant to stop at but nowhere as nice as Ediza or Thousand Island Lakes back up to the pass Vogelsong Peak looked intimidating. web page said followed the gully so I did, not too many other choices. It had a ridgeline that looked easier but I suspect it had a section that was borderline rock climbing otherwise the internet would have recommended it long slope of boulders, but not as bad as I feared it would be remaining part of the summit was easier, most of the challenge was finding a route not barricaded by thick shrubs. somehow much easier getting thru on the way down. view looking back short scramble section at the very top that was mostly avoidable with a bit of searching sea of granite summit view until I came back to my campsite around 1 pm, I hadn't seen a single person. me with my new pack. I was getting tired descent route was nice enough but eventually got boring nice river spot at the Tuolumne River I stayed at for a while [/spoiler

Nice sunflower fields along this backroad: It leads to this cute village: Rather large, though mundane church there: Most of the remnants of Richard the Lionheart were buried there, among those of other illustrious people of his time: Handsome mรฉdiรฉvale atmosphรจre indeed in the neighboring villages: At the confluence of the Loire and Vienne rivers: Water is low, most of the bridge crosses gravel instead of water: Power lines ruining my pic Larger town futher down the Loire river:

I'm in the Pyrenees right now. The local weather works like a clockwork: sunny in the morning, random on and off storms in the afternoon and sun comes back in the evening. It was 40ยฐC in nearby Toulouse that day. 15ยฐC where I was thanks to downdrafts.

Some pics of where I walk every afternoon. The fields are at the top of my road, this is where the suburbs become the countryside, just north of here are the South Downs. I then walk through a small nearby village, which has a nice church, a pub & lots of quaint cottages. I hated living here growing up, but now appreciate how lucky I am to have this on my doorstep, especially after living in the barren concrete jungle that is Malta for several years.

Spent a couple of days at the Jersey Shore, most of the time in Asbury Park. The city is transitioning and becoming more gentrified. It has some stunning architecture, much of which is being restored. Ocean Grove, NJ is a small Christian community. "God's Square Mile at the Jersey Shore":

One of my favorite beaches on the island, is on the southern shore. Although these pics are from a small sandbar in the middle of the water. Temp and dew was 85/72 and windy. Perfect out there...didn't even feel hot.

Went hiking and climbed a couple 14ers on Wednesday. Distance: 7.0 miles Time: 5 hrs 50 mins Trailhead elevation: 12,000โ Highest summit: 14,293โ Got lost getting there and after navigating the rough dirt road I got on the trail at 6 AM. Very pretty sunrise looking backโespecially the reflection in the lake. You can see the parking lot to the left of it. Great views opened up in all directions which helped make up for the hike being am annoying slog. Steep and over talus although it was just regular hiking, no scramble at all. I got to the 14,155โ summit about 7:30 AM. Views from the top: After that, I descended back to the saddle and then climbed up Mount Cameron and reached the summit at 9 AM. Mount Cameronโs summit is 14,238โ. Looking back at Democrat and the saddle: > < Views like this are why I get up at 1:30 AM and drive 4 hours: > < Unfortunately clouds rolled in near the summit of Cameron, at 14k your above the clouds so the view was very limited. Descender in the fog and climbed up Mount Lincoln, the 3rd and highest summit at 14,293โ. New elevation record for me! Was supposed to be a slightly harder climb with a bit of scrambling but there was none. Reached the top at 9:30 AM. Views from the Lincoln climb: > Looking back at Cameron: At the summitโwonder how many people mistake this for the descent: Above the clouds: < After Lincoln there was one final summit, Mount Bross. Bross is private land and was closed because some morons had fell in abandoned mineshafts near the trail. Everyone ignored the bypass though and went to the top. Got to the 14,178โ summit at 10:40 AM. There were no views though being enveloped by clouds but had to get to the summit to count it. That was the 4th of the day and my 6th 14er total. Only 52 to go! The descent back to the trailhead was the hardest part of the hike as it was very steep and had lots of loose rock and gravel so a slip wouldโve been easy. You can see the mining structures from here and this gives a good sense of the terrain going down. Very barren and desolate up here: > < After the steep descent finally leveled out there was a last bit of excitement with 3 stream crossings near the trailhead. The water was high from recent rain and the crossings were a bit tricky for short people like me as the rocks were far apart and slick as they were no longer above the water. On the way back I was so close to my car I didnโt give a fuck and waded right through the stream as that was a much easier route. Looking back at Cameron in the clouds: > <
