High was 90 (32 c) today, which is the 9th this month, a new record for September. Looks like a cold snap coming in Wednesday with two brief cloudy days in the 60s. That’ll be a nice relief but then it’s back to warmth with mid 80s at the end of the 10-day

More Flooding Rain As Negative IOD Gains Strength ( source: Weatherzone ) Australia is continuing to feel the impact of a strong negative Indian Ocean Dipole, with a band of rain and thunderstorms likely to cause flooding in parts of NSW during the next two days. A low pressure trough and associated cut-off low pressure system will cause widespread rain and potentially severe thunderstorms over Australia’s eastern states between now and Thursday. Rain and storms will initially develop in far western NSW, southwest QLD and western VIC on Tuesday afternoon and evening. This band of rain and thunderstorms will then spread towards the east across NSW and southern QLD on Wednesday, mainly affecting inland districts but also reaching parts of the coast in the evening. Wednesday’s rain will be heavy enough to cause flash and riverine flooding in western NSW, with a flood watch and severe weather warning already in place. In addition to this heavy rain, some inland areas of northern NSW and southern QLD could see severe thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon or evening. Some forecast models suggest that six-hour rain rates of 60 to 70 mm are possible Central West NSW on Wednesday morning and afternoon. This rain would likely cause dangerous flash flooding. On Thursday, showers and thunderstorms will contract to eastern districts of NSW and southern QLD. Severe storms are possible over northeast NSW and southeast QLD on Thursday as the cut off low passes over the region and creates an environment ripe for dangerous storms. Numerous flood warnings and severe weather and thunderstorm warnings are likely to be issued during the next two to three days. The map below shows how much rain one computer model predicts between now and Thursday night. This week’s wet and stormy weather is the latest in a series of rain-bearing systems that have targeted eastern and southeastern Australia over the last several weeks, fuelled by a strong negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). A negative IOD refers to a pattern of sea surface temperature anomalies in the tropical Indian Ocean that cause more moisture-laden air to flow towards Australia from the northwest. These negative IOD events, which occur on average once every five years, typically enhance northwest cloudbands over Australia and produce above-average rain over large areas of country's south and southeast during winter and spring. The current negative IOD was officially declared at the beginning of August and has since become the strongest negative IOD event we have seen since 2016. After weakening briefly at the end of August, the negative IOD has regained strength in the last fortnight. This week’s wet and stormy weather over eastern Australia shows that the negative IOD is still having a significant impact on our weather. Most international forecast models predict that the negative IOD will persist through the rest of the Southern Hemisphere’s spring before breaking down at the start of summer.

Exceptional drought seems over the top but it has been dry. So far this month, San Francisco has gotten more rain than Vancouver

Sounds like it'll be worse than Dorian. I'll be working on Saturday (if I have power) so no beach galivanting for me . Glad the peak will be during midday though, unlike Dorian which peaked around 2-3am.

Cool and damp today, after a high of 69 (21 c) at 1:30 AM, most of the afternoon was spent in the 50s. Light rain started around 2 PM.
0.29” (7 mm) has fallen as of 7 PM and it’s kept raining since.
I’m a bit annoyed at the complete lack of pleasant 65-73 and sunny days. Either it’s unpleasantly hot 80s and 90s or chilly wet 50s.

Exceptional drought seems over the top but it has been dry. So far this month, San Francisco has gotten more rain than Vancouver It's certainly on the more extreme end or even a bit abnormal at this point of what's to be expected around here during summer, but most certainly not exceptional since there is plenty of precedent.

Summer still in full swing across the PNW. Dry season was already late to start due to the cold/wet spring into early summer but even accounting for the backended summer I still would have expected the storm track to have trended south by now. Not complaining though. Month to date average high is about 25c(77f) with only about 5-15mm of rain fallen so far in September across the Vancouver region.

Had some pretty decent downpours this morning. The nearby weather station reported 0.20 in/5.08 mm but wouldn't be surprised if there were localized heavier amounts. Good rain today.
Sun came out this afternoon and the high reached 71 F/22 C but a big change is underway. Forecast low of 43 F/6 C tonight and a high of only 61 F/16 C tomorrow. Expected to be the coolest day since May 8th (not including the unusually cool weather on June 18th that had low 60s in the afternoon but an overnight high in the 70s).

Here's September here so far this month, up to yesterday. The numbers from today won't change too much here: Quite a nice month temp-wise but very dry.

This current image pretty much shows what will happen and why Fiona will travel so quickly here. It's still pretty far away, near Bermuda now.
