August 2022 was basically an uneventful month climatically across the Northern Territory. Max and min temps were above the long term averages in the Top End and slightly above average for max temps and below average for min temps in the Alice Springs district. Both Alice Springs and Darwin recorded zero rainfall for the month of August, although some coastal Darwin suburbs recorded up to 11mm of rain from a dawn shower this morning. Some places 600klm to the south west of Darwin, including Kalkaringi, scored up to 45mm yesterday, a nice drop of unseasonal rain. Darwin's min average of 20.8c was 0.5c above the monthly mean. Darwin's max average of 32.8c was well above the monthly mean of 31.5c an anomaly of +1.3c There were 10 min temps below 20c Highest max temp - 34.9c on the 8th Lowest max temp - 30.0c on the 3rd Highest min temp - 25.1c on the 31st Lowest min temp - 15.3c on the 16th Alice Springs had a typically swinging August, with winter and spring duking it out for supremacy. There were 6 min temps below 0c for the month Highest max temp = 32.1c on the 3rd Lowest max temp = 15.9c on the 11th an 23rd Highest min temp = 18.9c on the 3rd Lowest min temp = -1.3c on the 25th

SHITFIELD AUGUST 2022 SUMMARY'ot. Bloody 'ot it were m8.OK it wasn't really hot but it did have the highest average max temp since July 2018. Mean temp was the same as July but the highest August mean temp for prolly decades. It was deffo the best August in many years if you like sun and warm weather. The first half had a good old Brit 'eatwave with 30 degrees recorded on consecutive days. Bit 'ot for me actually. The month was very dry in some places but had localised downpours in others. We copped one such down pour on 16th, and as you can see, it really did piss it down that evening. The rain rate even reached 127mm/hr at one point. There was even flooding as well lol. So that was fun. So we had a month with fewer than usual rain days but above average quantity. It also had more sun than average. There were no crap drizzly cold cloudy spells really unlike last Poorgust which was remarkably dull and boring.

August ended up being fairly warm, and much drier than the last couple of months. We had a few small showers and storms here and there, but the vast majority of our rainfall came down in one major storm at the start of the month, with 18.8mm of our 25.6mm coming down that one day. Sunshine hours won't be in until probably early next week, but it was almost certainly sunnier than average. Average high: 27.9C (normal: 24.9C) Average low: 11.4C (normal: 10.3C) Mean temperature: 19.6C (normal: 17.6C) Warmest high: 35.0C (Aug 31st) Warmest low: 17.4C (Aug 20th) Coldest high: 17.6C (Aug 5th) Coldest low: 4.5C (Aug 6th) Precipitation: 25.6mm (normal: 42.6mm) Precipitation days: 8 (normal: 9.4)

Not what I was expecting for August since it is somewhat uncommon for August to have nearly the same temps as July.

What? Augist is on average just 0.4C cooler than July. I should have said: It is somewhat uncommon for August to have nearly the same temps as July, if July has an average high around 25C. It does happen but most years no.

Very warm summer in most of France. Truly Andalucia-esque in southern France with, for example, Nîmes' values below: J 32.3/19.2°C (90/67°F) J 35.7/21.2°C (96/70°F) A 34.0/21.1°C (93/70°F) Nice hasn't been below 20°C since June 29, and before that since June 9. 24.5°C/76°F avg low in July and 23.7°C/75°F in August there. Also a Bangkok-esque 34.0/27.9°C (93/82°F) July 19 there, with 3 back-to-back lows above 27.3°C/81°F. Aix-en-Parisvence Paris, Île-de-France, France August 2022 Average: High 29.0°C / Low 17.6°C / Mean 23.3°C ( *Never happened that both July and August mean recorded above 23°C until now!) For example, Orly's lowest max this month was 25.3°C, beating July 2006's 25.2°C.

August was hotter and drier than normal, like July but less extreme. There were a few cooler days and some rain in the middle to later part of the month, but it was hot overall, with 27 days hitting at least 90°F (32°C), the most since 2014. Summer 2022 was the 14th hottest on record and the hottest since 2012. This summer was one of the worst I've experienced, and I'm ready for fall.

My most timely monthly summary yet. August 2022 in Madison, WI: just a touch warmer than average, and a fair bit wetter. Boring (very stable temps) but inoffensive. The Year So FarOf course, I lived in Appleton until the latter half of August so I didn't get the 75 F high in March.

Average August conditions (1991-2020)
Average high: 15.2°C | Daily mean: 10.5°C | Average low: 5.8°C
Average precipitation: 38.0mm | Average precipitation days (>0.2mm): 15.3 | Average relative humidity: 59%
A warmer and wetter than average month. Notably, there were no sub 12°C maximums recorded. This has only occurred once before, in August 2009. There were also many more rainy days than usual, although most of the month's rain fell on only 2 days, the 19th and the 30th.

August was warmer than average, and wetter too. It saw the latest "tropical night" on record (20th). For the first time since 2006 August was the hottest summer month. It was reasonably thundery, so all in all a very good month. Also first time since 2007 when July had the coolest record high of the three summer months.

Anomalies from 91-20:
