Here we have Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, towns in California close to the eastern border. Bishop, in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada is a desert with huge diurnal ranges, while Mammoth Lakes is a winter resort town, with truly snowy winters. Which town's climate do you prefer? I didn't realize that they were on the same latitude as the Bay Area, I've always thought they were closer to LA. Bishop, elevation 4,150 ft (1,260 m)
Mammoth Lakes, elevation 7,880 ft (2,402 m)

Mammoth Lakes, the only sensible option.

Bishop. It sucks, but Mammoth is far too snowy to win. Huge elevation difference between these two. Pick any place on the west slope of the Sierra but at Bishopโs middle elevation, and itโs gonna be around an A grade climate.

Been to both in August.
I'll take Mammoth easily. Bishop is disgustingly hot.

shame that the lows are 3-4C colder in summer than Renmark's. Hideous diurnal range.

Mammoth Lakes. Winter is too snowy, and summer is too cool and dry, but at least it's not a desert. And with average highs above 40ยฐF (4ยฐC) all winter, I imagine the snow melts rather fast anyway.
