It's a tiny bit cooler and a little bit wetter / less arid. There might be hotter places north of Sparta. Already the new Sparta HNMS station is around 0.5C hotter in summer mean maxes compared to the old one. And this new one is still south of Sparta proper. Today 39.8C in Sparta HNMS  |

Will Sparta near 40.0C mean max for July? According to the models it is not unlikely. So far for July the mean max in Sparta HNMS is currently at 37.7C |

40.1C today in Sparta HNMS and 39.8C in Sparta NOA Up to and including today Sparta HNMS has a 37.9C July mean max Just for comparison Nicosia from the National Observatory of Athens station has a 38.0C mean max so far in July.

40.5C today in Sparta HNMS vs 40.4C in Sparta NOA Below a projection of maximum Ts until the 29th of July based on the mean of GFS model predicted for Sparta. It works out 39.6C July mean max provided GFS will be accurate. If we go by the main scenario (green line) then mean max for July in Sparta could be anywhere between 40.0C to 40.5CIn yellow my conservative predictions on the maximum Ts expected in Sparta while in red Ts that have been observed so far in the official WMO station of Sparta HNMS.

Hundreds of records will be smashed all over the Balkans and SE Europe. We are seriously talking about the hottest July like the past 2 centuries at least. |
