Looks like a classic scenario of winter being tilted westward whereas on the eastern shores particularly a bit south of the arctics you don't feel it at all. This has been a complete snoozefest of autumn though, no interesting weather whatsoever, unlike those multiple ice days in early November last year.

GFS drops the hammer down on Bing The lows are kinda lame tho. With a monstrous cold wave you'd expect some epic lows at least. Instead it's just nastyass cloudy weather with cold highs but moderate lows. This forecast sucks ass brah, happy to be in New York! If this was in C instead of F then it'd be a fun winter forecast

More polar northeasterlies to come. Splendid! Don't know why it's reading the temperatures rather oddly; it's โ5.2ยฐ C right now, not โ1ยฐ C.

It will be using temperatures from the nearest Met Office station (probably Great Dun Fell No 2 or Warcop Range). Nenthead does have a Met Office recording station, at Mill Cottage, but it only records rainfall...

Some welcome rain over the next few days, then a dry start to the New Year...

coldest forecast I've seen A pattern I notice is that temperatures and dewpoints are roughly rising and falling in sync with each other. Typical setup on dry days with big diurnal ranges is for the dewpoint to stay nearly constant maybe rise slightly during the day while the temperature has a big rise and then falls to about the dewpoint overnight. Maybe that's why the diurnal ranges aren't as large as most other cold, dry spells.

Thats a very cold forecast for the UK. Where the hell is Nenthead? London... ''Winter'' Nenthead is a mining settlement which lies on the North Pennines of the Cumbria-Northumberland border, precisely the Alston Moor. The settlement itself is elevated by 437-454 m AMSL upon the fells and lies at 54.8ยฐ N on a rather northeasterly position, thus being much colder than London.
