snowstorm photos. Total maybe 5 inches? Lasted a very long time, a full day for only 5 inches of snow, so rates were quite low. Yesterday morning in the evening house light was almost enough to make a decent photo same house next morning These are all phone photos. Copying Baba and did a few simple edits on them, didn't create an orange glow, but maybe I need to be in Sweden for that. Temperature: about 8°F (-13°C), made it annoying to take phone photos as I didn't have gloves that worked with my phone so I had bare hands. Time half an hour after sunrise starting at 7:45 am, ending at 8:15 am. wetter snow = snow sticks to trees better an hour later

I've been severely slacking with taking pictures in recent months. Nothing exciting, but here's one from yesterday:

Snowtime Nyköping 19 January 2018: Pics taken between 15:50 and 16:05 in the SE parts of downtown, through older houses and the river walk If quality is a bit lower than ideal it's because it was later and later during civil twilight. Have you been smoking the green stuff? You parkinsons seems to have receeded a bit! Congratulations on the snow

Have you been smoking the green stuff? You parkinsons seems to have receeded a bit! Congratulations on the snow No 420. In fact it was just the case that the lense was wet last time due to training simultaneously. I cleaned it and then it was pretty fine. Civil twilight is a bit of a problem to get right too though. I'm in two minds about snow (I like front-loaded snow better) but hey at least it makes things brighter because it's not going to average 6-7°C anyway Today the cold wasn't even that bad!

That’s a beautiful pic. Where was it taken? Ny guess would be somewhere in Hawkes Bay, but could be east coast hill country anywhere in both islands.

That’s a beautiful pic. Where was it taken? That was taken at Te Mata Peak in the Hawkes Bay region of the East coast.

Frozen Bayou sounds like a strange combination. Went to Mt. Greylock late afternoon yesterday. Got overcast on the drive there, one sun break on the way there. State road, think the speed limit is 40 mph there. I drove on that road the day after a snowstorm and there was packed snow and sludge on most of the lanes, started to slide a couple of times. At the trailhead, 2 pm. Trailhead temperatures 28°F, dewpoint 17°F. Top of the mountains looked hazy, a layer of thin fog. Could sorta make out the summit. Here's the GFS sounding from the time. It has the dewpoint at 23°F rather than the station observed 17°F, and then getting close to saturated right around 900 hPA [which is the summit of Mt. Greylock]. Gets much drier further above, so if there were a mountain much taller, you'd be above the clouds. Took the Thunderbolt Trail, which is also a backcountry ski trail. It's rather steep, especially the last section; climbs 1400 feet in one mile. I had less than three hours to sunset, so the steepest trail would be the fastest route. Could use the workout, though my pace wasn't great. Felt like I was too slow and worried and getting to the top by dark. Shouldn't have worried quite so much as it's much much faster going down. Maybe a little more than halfway up: snow was really low, besides being less pretty meant there were some ice patch and rocks not covered up. Couldn't slide as nicely on snowshoes. Weird cause maps showed that area getting the most snow, 8 inches or so; felt like 2-3. Wonder if the mountains acted as a snow block and the west side was much snowier? Getting around 2800 feet it was snowier looking nice view down but kinda socked in clouds Very last and very steep section of the Thunderbolt trail. Awkward to go up and uncomfortable to go down; the rest was fine going down even though I didn't bring poles. best view at the top Top of the trail joins a much gentler trail to the summit. finally getting that winter wonderland look Summit was fogged over, didn't bother check the overlook on the actual summit. Definitely chiller and windier at the summit was getting late (4:20 pm) Got to see the road and parking lot. A snowmobiler had made to the top. Snow cover is so low looks you could make it up on a mountain bike, at least with studded tires. got back to my car around 5:45 pm. One plus of the thunderbolt trail is it wide so easy to follow in the dark, brought no light with me. Had light in the steepest part: 5 pm and there was light! Sunset is at 4:49 pm, got a few minutes extra from being further west. Since I used an app and was going back the same way I came in, I could just follow my route back. Felt rather cozy. 20s was very comfortable hiking weather; only disappointment was snow wasn't deep enough but it felt good to get out.

It snowed again. Can't motivate myself to taking more pictures as I've pretty much exhausted what winter in Tavelsjö has to offer, so here's our front yard á la kronan and cloudcat style. And I actually only made this post to show this, and figured I'd throw in that snow picture. I looked out of the window and somehow there's the thickest fog ever, even though the temperature is -5'C in Tavelsjö. I went out and it felt like it was above freezing that's how humid it is. The clouds are at 100m in Umeå apparently. I guess since Tavelsjö is like 150m ASL we could be inside the clouds or something. Idk. It's really strange for such a cold temperature. (Normally at freezing temps there's some wisps of mist, or a thin inversion layer, not like this where all of Tavelsjö is covered in it. Pretty eerie actually.

Went hiking in the Poconos today. Very icy underneath the snow! Love this one: waterfall: Ice right there was strong enough I was standing on it. There's a little stream that flows underneath Standing on the ice.
