I went to Rundvik yesterday and decided to visit the sea. Turns out the bay is frozen. It's hard to know how far out the ice extends because satellites don't take photos this far north due to the weak sun here. It was actually very eerie standing there in the dark since with the snow falling the white ground just kind of fuzzed together with the sky at the horizon.

So yesterday it had been snowing constantly for three days. As I was shoveling the snow, I was going for Kebnekaise. Reference image taken by me: I think I did okay. It was taller than I, so I wanted to see what would happen if I jumped into it, because the snow was quite loose. This joke works better in Swedish than English because funeral=burial, but the little brother didn't cry at his brother's funeral.

Cheers man! The day itself was overcast shit, did not expect to see anything, looks like there was some clearing around the sun just at the right time.

That's the situation after 12 hours of snowfall followed by a couple of hours of heavy rain, caused by a sudden flux of warm air this morning: ^curiously, the snow decreases when moving up on the mountain. The picture is not particularly clear, but in the low part of the mountain in this picture the trees look greyish because they have snow on the branches, while the trees above them look brown and don't have any snow on them. This happened because the sudden temperature rise that turned snow into rain hit the high altitude part much harder than us: just for making an example, the weather station in the bottom of my valley today measured temperatures of 0/1Β°C, while a weather station at 1500 m of altitude on that mountain side today reached 6Β°C. Some pictures I took downtown: How the road looked like:

"Bymarka" (ca 400 m asl) in Trondheim today. Again " GrΓ₯kallen" (552 m) much closer now, and a little different angle. Second highest in the municipality. Perfekt skiing snow - we've had snow up here earlier, rain on the first snow packing it to give a good foundation, and then more fresh snow on top of that foundation. No need for sun cream with a 3.5 degrees sun angle... Temperature up here ca -5c to -6c.

Iβll try this winter, canβt match the best Nordic shots but maybe some local ones all the big conifers help there. Surprised at the clear deep blue sky does that happen often in Norway?

Iβll try this winter, canβt match the best Nordic shots but maybe some local ones all the big conifers help there. Surprised at the clear deep blue sky does that happen often in Norway? We do have a very blue sky here in Mid-Norway. Possibly because we are so far north, and some distance from the more polluted, heavy populated areas in Central-/Western Europe. We also use hydropower for power, so no power plants here using coal. However, now in Dec the daylight is so short, and cloud cover is often prevalent, so it can go weeks without sun in Dec. Very dependent on weather setup. It's not like the weather changes from day to day (but it sure can), but the weather setup is very hard to predict, and the weather might get "locked" in the same pattern for weeks. Like in Jan 2014 - no snow on the groun and virtually no precip, so we had large bush fires - in mid-winter!

For New Years, my girlfriend, dog and I went out to our remote cabin in the woods to escape fireworks. There was a lot of snow there. At least above 70cm. Lake. Dog. Canoe. Looking out the window. And here's our dog vs lots of snow.

Quite strong wind today, it is not a good weather for doing a trip on that mountain.

I also got buried yesterday. The dog got confused when my head got covered too. It was pretty comfortable except for when I got snow on my eyeballs. The eyeballs aren't comfortable getting that cold. And then I would have a pool of water on my eyes so I couldn't see. But apart from that it was pretty comfy.

Clear skies. You know what that means, folks. From 0'C to -16'C in half a day. It's pretty bright though which is nice.
