Went for another hike last weekend near Nederland, 10.3 miles/2000' elevation gain. Only went up to like 11,000' though. Beautiful aspen covered slope from the parking lot: > < Aspen stand early in the hike: > < Climbed through a nice open forest. The undergrowth was turning red, really pretty. Eventually, got to a lake with an alpine ridge behind it. Nice reflection > < Thought this picture of the clouds reflecting in the lake came out really well: Trail got steeper and rockier after this. Passed by another lake then eventually met an old, closed 4wd road. This was the highest I got and turnaround point. Nice views to the east, these are the backside of the mountains with the Boulder flatirons. Can see the plains although it doesn't come out in this picture: > < Looking at James Peak, some rain in the distance: > < Stopped at the upper lake on the way down. This one was guarded by rocky cliffs. > < Glowing aspens in the afternoon light on the way down. Best broadleaf tree out there. > <

Saturday went up a peak in the catskills and looked down up NYC's drinking water. was expecting more foliage (too much conifers higher up and too early lower down) Slide Mountain, highest peak in the Catskills, is 4 miles away. no taller mountain in the Appalachians going south till somewhere in West Virginia, and next one going north is in central Vermont. feels a bit more rounded than many Vermont peaks, and just a different shape next day in the catskills

Experienced aurora for the first time Thursday evening down here! I couldn't really see much with the naked eye, but could see it well with phone camera. Light pollution where I live, but it was more visible out in the country even with the naked eye!

Stayed a night in a mill on the Seine river last weekend Nice view from the room AstΓ©rix's banqueting table Clouded over during the night Made it to the Channel coast This oak tree is said to be about 1200 years old, dating back from the Charlemagne era. It hosts 2 chapels and looks pretty much like a fairytale house.

Climbed Mount Elbert yesterday. It's the highest peak in Colorado but more impressively, the whole Rockies. Highest point north of the Mexican volcanoes and east of the Sierras/west coast ranges. Distance: 9.8 miles Elevation gain: 4500' Trailhead: 10,040' Summit: 14,438' First few miles limbed through open forest with limited views. Opens up a bit below treeline, this is a false summit. > < Looking to the north at the upper Arkansas river valley. > < Across the Arkansas valley. The buildings to the left are the town of Leadville. > < A couple lakes, think these are man made reservoirs. > < Summit ridge: > < Nice views of Mount Massive, the 2nd highest peak in Colorado (the peak to the right, not the very distant ones) > < Think this is La Plata Peak, which I climbed a few weeks back > < Summit had panoramic views. Very brown but I love the stark beauty, nice different shades too. Also unspoiled wilderness to the west. All 4 Swatch range peaks I've climbed have had great views. > View down at two small lakes on the way down: > <

Fall foliage at the park Thursday evening: > < Nice sunset: > < From a natural area on the east side of town last evening. Foliage isnβt as good there yet, lots of trees either not at peak or past peak. Still pretty though. > <

Walking to a nearby primitive campsite. Weather has been excruciatingly boring recently. Same temperature day and night, relentless wind, and mostly cloudy skies. Low 80s with mid-upper 60s dew points this afternoon. Marsh grass has turned dormant for the season Campsite

A sure sign of spring over southern Australia: The town of Grafton in Australia has a Jacaranda festival celebrating the Jacaranda tree in a grand old fashioned way. A week long celebration with tourists coming from all over the globe to see the flowering trees. Thereβs even a jacaranda queen competition with a long held tradition of locals competing for honour of Miss Jacaranda Queen. The whole town celebrating with one big week long festival of fun events well worth seeing.

Autumnal colours are here. Mostly yellow and brown, though some trees are still green:

It's either almost summer-like or looks like winter is next door.

Sunset in Buenos Aires. It was supposed to be rainy day with thunderstorms... I haven't heard a single thunder and we only got 7 mm. At the end, the best of the day was the the twilight skies.
