Feels weird to have temps in the teens during the middle of the day, when in 2015 we didn't even maded frost in December

Wind chill advisories and warnings in effect in a good chunk of the country, from the Midwest and Northeast to the Deep South. Hard Freeze Warnings down to the Gulf coast. Even McAllen, Texas won't be avoiding chilly weather:

Very cold in Northeastern Montana, some spots nearly at -40C
Chilly morning here -9C/-10C in the city. It's pretty bizarre to have highs in the teens at any point of year in NYC, that usually means at least -20F anomalies

5.6” (14 cm) of snow fell yesterday, bringing the monthly total to 31.2” (79 cm).
This will be the snowiest December since 2010.
It will also be the coldest December since 2000.

If you told me this is forecast for Fairbanks, Alaska, I'd probably believe you. it'd probably be plausible (albeit above average for them but quite possible). But, in fact, it's mine:

That is a truly epic cold wave in the US! I wish places in Europe with that warm winter averages could see such a cold snap. Love the variability there.

Looks like even Florida won't escape the cold hitting the eastern part of the continent late week.

Got up to 33F this afternoon... I was hoping to have an ice day. The sky was mostly clear today aside from high altitude clouds.

To be honest, 20s in North FL, 30s in Central FL and 40 F in South FL, while obviously quite below normal, is not really anything THAT incredible.
TWC has us at at three nights in a row in the 30s, awesome!

silly cold. what an extreme tongue shape, thinks that's common with the most extreme cold outbreaks, when it's that narrow often short-lived. -28°C 850 hPa temperatures. Also not much of a ridge along the west coast, center of warmth has moved eastward over the Mountain West.

Hopefully the southwest (specifically CA) will see something similar soon.

We had a nice December cold snap as well which we haven't seen in a while!
