I would like to know the snowfall total in Nevelsk if they have a source available. I think St. John's(Newfoundland) wins over Sakhalin.

I don't know, but Japan's most northernmost city should give you an idea, it has a very similar climate, except that it receives 10 less days of snow and is a bit more mild. Wakkanai

Newfoundland. East Asia winters are just too cold, and their summers look far too humid (in the Street View images).
St. John's is also the closest any real city comes to my ideal sunrise/sunset times.

All good climates, but I'll go with Newfoundland for the higher precipitation.

This one was personally a tough one for me but I think overall Sakhalin is better because the summers are generally warmer and particularly the summer nights which further increases the daily mean, plus the extra humidity would probably make it feel even warmer, and at those mild temps any extra perception of warmth is a bonus. Also the island as a whole is sunnier and in particular the winters which will greatly help with cold long winters. Also I might have voted for Newfoundland since Gander and St. John's has fairly warm summers, but they are just way to rainy.

Newfoundland, easily. Much snowier and squallier.

Both places have absolutely horrible climates that is quite similar to northern parts of Norway. And its on the same latitude as northern Italy! That is quite embarassing indeed. That street view from Sakahalin in May looks like Oslo in mid April. What a terrible place. Sakhalin also has extremely cold winters so I guess Newfoundland is better.

Any idea how high of a latitude 44°-49° N is? The 44th-49th parallels are right below the subpolar regions. The only regions that are warm for these subpolar parallels are Europe and parts of Western North America; the vast majority of the regions at the corresponding parallels are much colder.

Has to be Newfoundland and don't even need to take another look at those charts to make my mind up on that one. Newfoundland has much milder winters and for me that's a massive dealbreaker with Sakhalin anyway you slice it. Even Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is too cold in winter and that's the southern edge. It also only gets worse from there

Newfoundland, just barely. Also LOL at that one that claims it's a "continental mediterranean" climate.

Sakhalin for being more continental. Both places have too cool of summers, so I may as well choose the place with the colder winters. Sakhalin looks nice and snowy as well.

It's some sort of humid continental/subarctic hybrid but I have no idea how to hyperlink lmao

Looks quite snowy here too, especially in November and December. I wonder who's fucking up all these Wikipedia climate sections. Some sort of Russian ? lol.
