Over 2 million people under severe thunderstorm warnings at 2 am.
Insane night last night, a tornado was reported in the Apollo, PA area - 5 miles from my house.

Heavy shower cells and thunderstorms over the Western Australia Wheatbelt and western goldfields at the moment. A leading band of heavy storms before the main arm of the front hits Perth this afternoon. The highest rainfall I can see on meteye is 17mm at Merredin, on BoM the highest is 4.8mm at Newdegate. Perth is forecast 4-10mm tonight from the front, most of it in the form of short heavy showers and likey storms! Destructive winds are also possible tonight with Windyty (ECMFW) forecasting up to 100km/h wind gusts in the southern suburbs of Perth.

Environment Canada has a great section on lightning statistics in Canada, so much interesting stuff in there - www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/lightning/statistics.htmlA few fun facts... • The city with the most lightning strikes (within a 25km radius of the city centre) was Windsor, Ontario with 109,776 total strikes and an average of 50.1 days per year of lightning • The city with the least lightning activity was Prince Rupert, BC with a pitiful 152 strikes and 2.6 days of lightning per year in that same period • Southwestern Ontario is the most lightning-prone region of Canada, by a very wide margin • July is the most common month for lightning activity in Canada • The prairie provinces are much more likely to experience nocturnal thunderstorms than BC or most parts of eastern Canada

Drought in Riga and central Latvia, but a half of normal May's precipitation in SE Latvia today. Normal situation for summer, it's either hit or miss with rain.

The Perth MEGA-UBER-GIGA STORM OF THE MILLENIUM has arrived, light rain between 12-12:30 becoming light-moderate and fairly steady onwards. All the heavy rain is meant to arrive 3pm-9pm so we've still got plenty of time to get into the 20-40mm range which was forecast. As of 4:20pm Perth: 8.8mm Jandakot: 6.4mm Radar at the moment: Jandakot data since 9am, actually got fairly mild before the rain came through, it's also been quite windy all day and especially so in the past hour or two.

Ended up getting just shy of 30mm of rain last week, with a total of 42mm for the month, just 1mm shy of average! We have some rain in the forecast for Monday evening and Tuesday so hopefully that'll happen and put us a little above average.

23.6mm at Jandakot combining yesterday and today's rainfall, 22.6mm at Perth Metro for the same time period. The official BoM forecast were 20-40mm for yesterday and 5-15mm for today, so a range of 25-55mm. As long as we get to 25mm it's a passing grade for the rainfall. The main positives from this storm are the huge swells that crashed onto the coast, the high winds all around the SW of the state and also the big falls further north in the state. Learmonth with 59.8mm, Karratha with 22.2mm, Port Hedland with 23.8mm and Mardie with 34.2mm. Stations in the SW corner had around 25-45mm. Temperatures currently in the 8-9C range and raining in the coldest areas of the SW district. 7.8C at Shannon, 8.2C at Manjimup, 8.4C at Rocky Gully South. Could this be a microburst? Pretty dramatic-looking convective storms here today.

42 mm fell overnight downtown. Had a little bit of distant lightning on and off the past couple days. But we're yet to get a PROPER thunderstorm.

I heard of some quite intense rain storms around Turin in the last few days, and then found these videos recording them. These were both recorded on Sunday evening just south of Turin:
^ time lapse from a hill nearby
^ video putting together clips recorded closer to the center of the rain and hail episode

Rain band stretching from Kalbarri to Esperance! The only rain we got today was from the rain band, suprisingly no showers before or after the band; a very clean one indeed! This is an estimation of the rain since 9am (from BoM), pretty good estimation. As of 7:30pm Jandakot: 11.4mm Perth Metro: 11.2mm Bickley (hills): 15.0mm Perth Airport: 9.8mm Swanbourne (coast): 8.8mm Falls since 9am from stations

T-storm was approaching but then the core of it shifted away from me unfortunately - I got less than a tenth of an inch of rain. A decent amount of lightning with it.

So far this year I’ve heard thunder on 10 days, 7 of which I would say qualify as thunderstorms (one or two rumbles of thunder and no lightning doesn’t count).
In June, 6 days had thunder, 5 of which were actual thunderstorms. The 28th had a high quality storm which is easily the best of the year so far.
Not great but certainly better than either of the last two years which had very few storms.
