No storms in Saskatoon tonight, however there is a massive storm cell nearly 150km to the southeast and I can clearly see both the clouds and flashes of lightning within the clouds from here. Very impressive.

Vaisala's 2019 lightning report is out. Looks like it was an active year in the Plains. Less active in the Southeast compared to the 5 yr average. Here's a link to the report & maps. www.vaisala.com/en/system/files/documents/Vaisala-Annual-Lightning-Report-2019_0.pdfTop 10 states in 2019 for lightning density: 1. Florida 2. Oklahoma 3. Missouri 4. Texas 5. Louisiana 6. Kansas 7. Illinois 8. Arkansas 9. Mississippi 10. District of Columbia

Still no storms in Saskatoon today but we were under a severe thunderstorm watch all day long (and still are). A few cells moving through the province here and there but nothing in our immediate vicinity at the moment.

Leading edge of this afternoon's front Predicted to drop 1-4mm this afternoon, not much for a front. Better shape in the 512km radar

Big red-black cells popping up, general trend is North to South but front is moving eastwards creating SE trending cell direction. Decent chance I'll be under some of those cells.

UPDATE Much stronger than expected, thought there would just be a thin and heavy rain band. Cells expanding as they hit the coast near Mandurah.

...aaaaand it's completely fizzling out just before it reaches Saskatoon... Full Melbourne. What the fuck? Full Renmark is what you meant. Especially how thick it is at your longitude to the south, while you get the fail at life ass end. One of the biggest nonsensical running gags here. Fizzlaaahhhhhhhh derping wazzuuuuppppp fizzzeeerrrrrr fizzzeerrhhhhhhhrraaarrrrggghhhh

Well, it turned out not to be a total failure after all, we're finally getting some proper rain and thunder even if a lot of it did dissipate before arriving.

Well we're already nearing the end of thunderstorm season over here (unless it pulls a repeat of last year and we keep storms through August and September, but that seems unlikely). Really wasn't a remarkable season this year, a few decent storms passed nearby but nothing spectacular at all. I guess that's partly a product of having had very stable and mild weather the past month or so.

Literally the entire country has a thunderstorm warning tonight, and some parts have two warnings haha Apparently a lot of people have been having their best storms of the year these past few hours, nothing here just yet though.

While this has been a better storm season than the past 2 years, it has still been subpar.
Thunderstorms by month so far:
January: 0 February: 0 March: 0 April: 0 May: 2 June: 5 July: 2 August: 1 as of 8/10
Total: 10
There were 6 more days where I heard thunder but these were just 1-2 quiet rumbles and no lightningβhardly thunderstorms.

Can see more lightning in the distance, hundreds of flashes. TV signal's been knocked out. Think it'll miss us tonight, though.
